1.2 tsi oil consumption is high

Featured Replies

Hello to everybody, I have this car from 2011 and change oil filter and oil every 8000 kilometers without the yellow oil symbol ever appearing.

Now the last year I have the yellow symbol of oil appear every 4000kilometers and I check the oil dipstick and its at the minimum mark!

I dont seem to find any oil spill or anything like that.

For now I just refill with 5w40 Castrol but there is sure a problem, any ideas?

So for future reference, my fabia was thoroughly checked and was not leaking oil from anywhere so the only solution is to open the engine and check the pistons, springs  maybe damaged, gasket maybe also damaged. Still in the process of testing dont know exactly the problem but it needs to be rebuilded with new parts.

So pretty expensive, around 900 euros is the first estimation.

The thing is I only had 110k klms, that's too soon for engine reconstruction, the mechanic said those engines last around 150-180k.

I would expect the turbo and valve stem seals to both be leaking slightly at the age and mileage of your engine, replacing these would undoubtedly reduce oil consumption without having to rebuild the engine, you should also ensure the PCV system is clean and working perfectly as higher crankcase pressures increase oil consumption dramatically.

Your oil consumption is therefore likely to be a manifestation of many minor faults rather than one major fault.
