P0441 fault code - Rough start.

Featured Replies

Hey!

Every now and then I get P0441 fault code. Sometimes I get a check engine light but after few days it goes out on its own. When I clear the code it comes back after few weeks or a month. My mechanic said it isn't a big deal as long as car drives fine but recently I have noticed that my car struggles to start or just has a rough start. Even after I have driven for 30 minutes. Sometimes after starting the engine, RPM goes to 1100 and stays there for a while whether it is warm or cold outside. One time I just left it running and it stayed at that RPM for 5 minutes before it suddenly started coming down, very noticeable rpm drop. Usually when it seems to be stuck at 1100 rpm I turn off the car and start it again after which it seems to idle normally at 1000 and slowly goes down to 700-800. Otherwise seems to idle decently with a jolt going through the whole car every now and then.

As I understand it could be because of a bad EVAP purge valve, solenoid but I looked through the manuals and I could not located this part as if I'm blind or my car doesn't have one. I have not looked under the hood as it's late but I'll do it tomorrow. I know that they usually place it under the hood near the coolant reservoir.

I have 1.2 TSI 63kw ( CBZA ).

Also one thing I noticed is that I get a code 11003 ( Status: Test failed, since last DTC clear, Test not completed during this operation cycle.). Not sure if this means anything.

Car scanner app shows that in current drive cycle several emmisions tests failed. Including the evaporative system. But when I don't get the P0441 code, everything seems to pass.

I looked at the purge solenoid but I didin't notice any parts numbers or something like that. Only thing is the logo of the manufacturer ( Valeo ) and arrow in which way the vapours flow.

I searched online to find a replacement part but there are no parts numbers for Skoda Rapid or atleast not for the CBZA engine. Workshop manual just says N80 And looking online there are like 10+ different parts numbers for these things. Which one should I be looking for?

Replaced purge valve with a new one ( 6QE 906 517A ) and now the car starts great.

I noticed that there are no clamps holding the hoses on and the one coming from the charcoal canister was almost loose. The other one that goes into engine was super tight. So I decided to use metal hose clamps but it actually caused a leak? and made it worse because it pinched one side of the hose. After removing the clamps and using zip ties it works great again.
