I'm currently looking for a mk 3 octavia 2 litre tdi ,went to look at a 15 plate with 56k miles yesterday ,found when engine was  up to temp there was white vapour from engine filler cap and dipstick tube Dealer had a golf gtd with same engine and 12kmiles asked to compare the engine on this which I found to be the same .Is this normal ?

More than likely just moisture and fumes from combustion condensing in the cool air

I  understand the usual vapour from a cold damp exhaust ,just never seen it from a rocker box or dipstick tube before.Certainly don't get this on industrial common rail engines Thanks for the reply btw any help from anyone with knowledge of this engine is greatly appreciated.
