DSG Gearbox.

Featured Replies

Sadly, due to a dodgy left knee it’s looks like My next car might have to be an automatic.Have seen a few adverse comments about the DSG box in magazines and on U tube about the car can be a bit hesitant/juttery starting off or in slow speed. What is the opinion of DSG owners on here?.Any comments welcome.Thanks.

Many Motoring Journalist comment on DSG's jerking.

Usually when driving Media Cars that other Motoring Journalists have driven.

Demonstrators, Hire Cars, peoples cars driven by others can behave badly until you drive a while and they then behave as you want.

There are all kinds of DSG's, 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG's, 6 or 7 speed wet clutch DSG's and ones on petrol engines and ones on diesel engines

so you need to try before you buy and see how they feel to yourself.

By and large the DSG gearbox is extremely good and you should love it.

The problem you mentioned may be the scenario when you're slowing down for a junction but then want to press ahead leaving the car to quickly decide what you really want to do. It's an 'irritation'!

It can be a bit rough pulling away from standstill if you're too aggressive with the loud pedal. I find if you give it a fraction of a second from letting go of the brake before hitting the accelerator it's fine. If you're chasing down a wet clutch DSG make sure it's had its fluid & filter changes done on time - the clutches don't like worn out oil.
