bought a 2017 octavia last October with 43k on the clock it has 50k now not used it that much due to the obvious pandemic , however being due its first MOT i took it where i bought it from to be told its failed as the headlight washer jets were not working , i didn't even know it had headlight washer jets I've never seen any water dripping from that area of the car i didn't buy it for that reason lol bought cause its got good reliability anyways .. got it booked in at a skoda specialist what I'm asking is , will this mot failure of a job cost hundreds to remedy to get it through its test does anyone know please ?!

They aren't meant to work every time, I assume the MOT tester knows this?

The headlights need to be switched on (dipped beam), and it will wash the headlights with the first pull of the stalk after lights come on, then every third (I think it is) pull after that...

Otherwise, it could be the hoses have come off somewhere - this can happen if sprayed when washers are frozen, as it's water pressure that pushes the washers out on their stalks.

Also - to add to this; there is a mod you can do in VCDS that stops the washers from washing EVERY time you clean the windscreen (because it just wastes screenwash).  Its not an MOT failure.  That is bunkum.  To see if this mod has been applied, spray the windscreen up to 10 times.  If it hasn't cleaned by the 8th or 9th time, then you may have a problem.

thanks for replying mate ... i read that somewhere else about the timing between each use ... the evans halshaw 'technician' assured me it had to be a skoda dealership as the whole bumper needs to come off which is always handy eh lol even with the extension don't like driving around in an out of test car ya know .. always summt haha

i'll go and try that now only did 5 yesterday ya never know eh ..

Some people mod with VCDS so you need to hold the washers on for a few seconds to get it to do it too

Correct, I have set mine on long wash.

Can you confirm that you have LED or Xenon lights?  As if not and your headlight bulbs are halogen,  then i believe it should only be an advisory, not a fail.

LED lights on mine so im told i felt the same way as well headlight washer not working is not a fail but the law changed at some point for LED and HiD lights fitted on all makes and models !! ridiculous i know but what can ya do eh im just hoping its not hundreds of pounds to put a tube back on lol its all sealed underneath no way to get to it without a ramp ..

Check the fuse.

no fuse allotted to the washers , im guessing they are activated by water pressure .. i think don't quote me thou lol
