Intercooler Hoses

Featured Replies

Hi guys, please help.

not my car but it's on my drive now. Fabia vrs 1.9 pd with an after market silicone hose for the intercooler. One of them keeps popping off under high boost.

Now, when i tighten the jubilee clip, it pushes the hose away from the coupler. Almost as it's not grabbing it properly. Makes me thing the cupler should be longer/deeper groove. See pictures.

How do i stop this from happening?

Many thanks

Bertie

is the pipe the right diameter? almost looks slightly too wide in the pic, unsure if that matters

Only other advice i can offer is use Hairspray on the joining surfaces and try a better clamp maybe?

i don't know, the hose slides in, but when the clamp is tightened then it pushes the hose away if that makes sense.

The clip is too wide, use a narrower clip which will crush the pipe down into the groove, I see you removed all the white tape filing the groove in the first picture in the closeup third photo so you're on the right track.

I can't seem to find a narrow clip, if I do then it's too small. I need something like 50mm-70mm

Stainless quick release clips from Jubilee are narrower as are wire clips, you don't need massive clamping force to retain a hose if it fits properly.

Mikalors also have a rounded profile so as not to pinch/cut the hose.

In that piccie, how's the alignment of the hoses. I'd want to get that metal hose end closer to the EGR. It almost looks too far forward and/or too low. The right angle silicone looks like it's stretching.

Try pulling the pipe out of the lower silicone a tad.
