08 Scout ESP light on (Heldex pump??)

Featured Replies

Hi guys. A bit late to the party, I know. Been reading through the forums and there's some great input here, just wondering if this pool of knowledge has any experience with this.

One day at the beginning of this year I started up my scout and the ESP light was on. I was driving and pressing the button, but couldn't get it off. Next time I started up it was on, but before I set off I pressed the button and got the light to go off. It would stay off for a while and then come back on. Anyway, now it seems stuck on good and proper.

I had a service done a few weeks ago, at a decent but not Skoda dealer garage, and they ran diagnostics. They came back saying Heldex pump and oil required, but also didn't seem 100% confident that would be the solution get the light to go off.

I've read a few different threads online with people with similar sounding problems, but not seen anyone pointing to heldex pump, usually a wheel speed sensor or abs or  something. The car did have a prop shaft vibration problem before I bought it two years ago, which was fixed before I bought it.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice, should I try some cheaper fix alternatives first?..., maybe I should take it to my local dealer garage and get them to have a look?

Cheers

Nathan

First of all you'll need a proper diagnosis but as you say already done and found only this (haldex pump)  issue, I would go for another diagnostics run using a VCDS for example to double confirm.

A common issue proves to be   the wheel sensors/wirings, or rings.

Make sure the Haldex filter has been changed. Skoda don’t even show it on their parts diagram. Attached is a photo of my Scouts filter at 8 years old and approx 35k miles.  The Haldex was serviced by main dealer at 4 years.
