Are the mobile ones any good?

I've had a right giggle thinking of me crafting a rug whilst sitting at the lights :)

Haven't a clue I'm afraid. Been out of touch with the motor trade in Brum for too many years, other than a friend in Solihull.

As with every other trade, it depends.  Anyone can call themselves a mechanic or auto electrician and pay for adverts with swish graphics.  It doesn't mean they are any good, the good ones usually don't need to advertise a lot, word of mouth is their best advertising.  So I'd personally suggest you go on word of mouth recommendations from people you know rather than just google for someone.  You and your son must between you know quite a few people, tell them of your problem and ask if they can recommend anyone.

I've found a place in Blackheath which is recommended.  Fingers' crossed.

An update!

After my Yeti not starting several times since I last wrote, I bit the bullet and took it into a 'reputable' auto electrician today. (yes-there is a place called Blackheath)

I took with me a long note, outlining the door fault and the not starting over many years.

The verdict .......

Faulty battery (bought from Halfords less than 6 months ago).

I kept saying to the nice man that I'd had the same fault long before I bought the Halfords battery (and had had the previous battery tested, and found to be fine), but he insisted that the current battery was the only fault they found.

Am I happy? Not really. I will take the battery back to Halfords, and hope that's not unpleasant, but I will not sleep easy, because I know the problem isn't solved :(

Just out of curiosity - does this age of Yeti need a battery coded into the system?  More modern Skodas/VW need batterys need encoding onto the CANBUS system, otherwise they will not charge.

It's a 12 plate. Does that apply?

It doesn't need coding to the car, so don't worry.

The thread title states it's a 2014 Yeti?
