How well will the yeti tow?

Featured Replies

Hello, I’m looking to buy a yeti to tow a caravan of upto 1450MTPLM and have a couple of options.

yeti 2.0 tdi 110ps (2017) 2 wheel drive scr. Kerb weight 1377kg. Torque

or

yeti 2.0 tdi DSG 150 ps 4 x 4 scr. Kerb weight 1510kg

I’ll be new to towing and have had some really confusing advice!

can anyone tell me if they have experience of this outfit and what it might be like?

With the 110 the caravan would weigh more than the car and would not be advisable, especially for a novice tower.

I have been towing for 30 plus years and even with the 150 I would not be happy, and again would not recommended it to a novice. I think you need to be looking for a heavier car than the Yeti.

If it were simply a choice between those two, then the 150 ps 4x4 every time.  The 2wd car has a max braked towing weight of 1500 kg, so you'd be very close to the limit with that caravan.  The 150 ps, 4x4 has a max braked towing weight of 2100 kg; so has a much greater reserve.

Having once towed an exhibition box trailer weighing 1.9 tonnes with my 150 I would NOT want to do it again. It might be legal but it was not pleasant!

As Urrell says, for someone with little to no experience they need to be looking at either a bigger car or a smaller caravan.

I tow my caravan (which has a 1476 MTPLM) with a 4x4 150ps and it's a dream - the best towcar that I have ever owned (and I've owned a few).

If you have to go with the Yeti then the 150bhp diesel. I ran a 110bhp diesel with a low profile 1200kg caravan and I was happy. I then swapped to a 150bhp petrol Audi A3 and I cannot believe the difference the extra bhp makes. You need the combination of the 150bhp and weight.
