octavia mk2 drivers door showing open,

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new here, so if this is posted in the wrong place please forgive me,

My octavia 2012 is showing on the dashboard, between the clocks rhat the drivers door is constantly open, so the central locking won't work, I have read that it is probably the micro switch that is in the locking mechanism, I have purchased this and have taken the door card off, however there is another metal panel riveted before you can see the locking mechanism, if anyone has any info or can help me, or wants a bit of work, then please reply, I live in Leics, many thanks guys, mick

Before you start attacking the lock have you checked for broken wires in the umbilical between the drivers door and the body as these have been known to fracture.

i have this problem also, the locking mechanism is quite easy to take off. if its anything like my fabia, there are 2 bolts on the outside of the door which you have to undo then the mechanism comes straight out.

oh, on mine, there is a foam for soundproofing and if i rip that off then the mechanism comes out from that hole.

i made a thread while ago and someone suggested using a voltage meter to check the wirings from the door to inside of the car. if its not he wirings then its the micro switch.

thanks very much guys, Its a bit beyond me checking the voltage, I can't even see the lock mechanism, cause its not visible and behind the riveted panel, I couldn't even see which wires go to the lock,

This is not going well!

Anyone want to earn a few quid? I'm in Leics,

another way is to take the panel off, have you got a rivot gun?

I tried drilling one of the many rivets out mate, it took some time but finally went, however there are quite a few and I gon't know if there is anything attached to them on the other side of it, as the window and all its gubbins are a part of it on the inner panel,

actually how about just taking the speaker out? the hole looks big enough for the mechansim to come out of there.

this is very similar to my door

as you can see the grey foamy thingy on the left, that rips off and i can take the mechansim out.

Thanks for the pic mate, I drilled the rivets and took the speaker out, and then took the 2 bolts out of the outer door to undo the mechanism, but there is no way you can see what your fiddling with through the speaker hole, however the mechanism is loose, I imagine its attached by cable to the outer door release handle/door lock, so I imagine the whole secondary panel has got to come off to access it and see what I'm doing...

i have heard its straight forward, will need to get a diagram/manual on the handle part. i can imagine once you can take the handle off then things would be easier.

no problem, i still need to sort mine out but i just cant motivate myself to doing it. if it was something like brake pads then i would have to do it.

If you can borrow a Haynes Manual (5549) then you will have a set of pictures and instructions.

You will also need some larger than usual rivets and riveter to replace the door carrier - or use a different type of fastener.
