It's official.... Its a great car

Karoq 1.5tsi dsg...

Took it out for a good run today.  Up and down hill and dale.  Its a real joy to drive compared to my old 2009 tiguan 2.0tdi sport 4motion.

Lovely and smooth over the rubbish UK roads, responsive engine and in over 100 fun miles.... Not a creak or squeak from the cabin plastics or suspension.

Sometimes I can be guilty of looking for problems where none exist.

Fallen in love again 😍

It's not bad with the 6 speed manual either. Ours is currently averaging almost 49mpg which is very good for a comfy, petrol SUV with room for 5 adults and a competitive 500 litre boot. Still on the original Michelin Primacy 3 tyres after 25,800 miles.

Oh yes. I nearly forgot...   Got 43mpg too.. Not quite as impressive as your figure but bearing in mind that about 30 miles was up and down a lot of hills in deepest Exmoor that was pretty impressive for me and my heavy right foot.  I have given up with the uber annoying stop/start thing. I am certain that this is designed to wear out the starter motor, shorten the life of the battery and I'm 100% convinced that it lowers my mpg significantly. Sure it lowers emissions and that really is a good thing to aspire to but not at the expense of all the downsides (not for me anyway). It cuts in too much at junctions and when I stop for only 2 or 3 seconds.  I appreciate that it can't know that it will only be 5 seconds which is why I don't like it. No way around that conundrum unfortunately. It doesn't take a genius to work out that using the starter motor and battery maybe 20 times in a 10 mile journey is going to cost me a fortune in few years down the line.

There you go......   Back to the normal moaning..  Didn't take long 🔫🔫😔

Stop/start never switched off in ours but always driven in Sport mode because the heavier steering suits it because you need to feel what is going on through the front tyres.:whew:

I don't understand, just turn it off at the start of the journey.

Mine hasn't been working because of the Lockdown and the battery not being charged enough. I did a 30 mile drive today and it came back.

There's nothing to "understand"..  I was just saying.  I know that you can turn it off each journey 😉. Just a shame there's no default off option that's all.

Have you managed to find a way to 'lock' it into Sport mode.....or any other mode?

I tend to drive in ECO...I think it gives a slightly softer throttle response....just a preference for me.

Our early model built late 2017 always remembers which mode it was left in but later Skoda's which have the mode but such as my 2019 Superb always start in Normal which I alter to Eco because the full 363PS (268kw) are available in any mode should you need them. Blame the stricter WLTP emission rules compared to pre September 2018 and the non GPF NEDC regulations.

I'm not up to date on Karoqs, isn't there the option in individual mode to select your prefered steering?

Q2? Is the 190 ps (petrol) 4WD Sportline Karoq any good, I've driven the same drivetrain in an Ateca FR & was quite impressed, but SWMBO really doesn't want us to own a SEAT!

I'd imagine that AMD could rework the engine map up to approx 250 ps, the 4WD should prevent any drama when accelerating & it would be a bit of a sleeper, which we both like.

Reason for asking, I'm quite happy to keep ancient Superb for another year or two, but I'm looking to replace the Golf sometime soon.

Once I switch off the car it loses its last setting and reverts back to 'normal' mode. However the dashboard centre screen still shows the setting last used despite the car having reverted to 'Normal".

It has been previously discussed on this forum and there would appear to be no solution.

i've got the 2.0 TSI 190PS sportline and it's a very very nice car to drive the 4x4 is great you can go into the corners better at speed the 7speed DSG is very good had know trouble with it at all

All in all a great car and you get a lot of standard spec as for mapping one 250PS is not a problem maybe 300 PS probably but will need to map the DSG to get the best out of it

You can disable START/STOP thru ODB coding (no need for ODB license, just the device and mobile app), I've disabled it this way (but START/STOP icons still appear in the dashboard as if the system was enabled) :

IMPORTANT : The deactivation of the S&S through this mod is permanent, as long as the default value is not restored. The mod prevents the system from being activated.

1. Go to Module 19 - Data diagnostic interface .
2. Select Safety Access: 20103
3. Select Adaptation
4. Select Initial Voltage Limit Start / Stop
5. Enter value 12 6. Confirm the changes.

This function is the one that deactivated the Start Stop when the battery is low on charge, so it has a value of 7.6, when this value is raised and in normal conditions, the battery does not activate the Start Stop.

That no longer works on the latest builds (late 2020MY onwards ) - VAG have removed the ability to disable start/stop because of concerns about them being accused of allowing emissions cheating.

Never understand if I live until the Queen sends me a Birthday Card why anyone would want to make their car use more fuel and pollute the enviroment more when the battery has been specially beefed up to cope with the extra demands placed on it. And people wonder why in the last 6 commutes using with wife's Karoq 1.5TSi manual with stop/start active it managed a 63.2 and 63.8mpg over 27 miles. Try getting that with it disabled and see what difference it makes to your wallet. Over the last 4 weeks it has used just £40 of unleaded.

spelling mistake

Switching off Stop / Start is there with the press of a button for those that want to put it off.

No more difficult than putting on or off the rear demister, putting up or down a window.

Battery isnt the only thing affected by START/STOP system, the whole engine is put under stress when turning it on - now imagine turning it on and off 100 times during daily commute in heavy traffic..

Also pollution can't be solved with half-assed attempts like START/STOP - people need to go fully electric before we get rid of pollution in any measurable way

Its beyond annoying that the car does not remember the last set option - it will always default to START/STOP enabled when powering on the car

It's OBD BTW not ODB like you stated earlier. Wouldn't want new members to the forum confused with the terminology. On Board Diagnostics.

@Fux

Not complicated.

The corrupt / implausible Co2 g/km results are achieved under the WLTP and RDE 2 because there is Stop / start even though drivers might never use it.

Or it maybe not work as a drivers use, location, weather etc might have it imobolised more often than not.

So VW Group have to appear to not make it easy to have Stop / Start disabled other than by a button press.

They are getting a few more years cheating in with Light Hybrids and Plug in Hybrids to give the Average Co2 g/km required to save them having to pay money penalies.

True, but invariably, I only remember at the end of the street after the engine has cut.......Further, the restart on the 3 cylinder cannot in any way be called smooth.......in fact, on more than one occasion I’ve thought the car behind has bumped me!

It can be made to remember the last setting by adding hardware like this Start Stop Memory module with SERVICE MODE! / Start-Stop SSA memory  - but NOT by any coding changes on the newer model years.

Blimey...   the restart on a vw must be bad then...   i know its a different system to that on my 3 cylinder Suzuki is very smooth and quiet as it uses the belt driven hybrid motor rather tahn the starter used for initial starting.
