Vrs estate aftermarket roof bars?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a vrs estate 2019, I want a set of roof bars but was thinking Budget aftermarket as they will be used once a year to carry a roof box camping. Anyone had any experience with non Skoda/ non Branded roof bars, as an example saw some M-way eagle budget ones that looked ok. Welcome your thoughts or experiences. Cheers

I've got a 2015 vrs estate and was in the same boat a few weeks ago.

I had a set which my dad had bought from Aldi I think a few years back, he rarely used them and got a new car last year so passed them to me. They were OK for what I was using them for (bikes every now and again)  however one day the bit where you tighten the clamp decided to shatter in my hand rendering them useless.

I contemplated buying a similar set, but for a little bit more outlay I found a branded version could be purchased. I bought a set of 2nd hand Thule square bars and feet off eBay for just over £50. Have a look, mine were advertised as Thule 7104 VW Tiguan bars but they're the exact fit for the Octavia.

I use the Thule Wing aero bars - originally purchased for my previous Audi RS4 and I was pleased to find they are also correct for my Octavia III (and also for my intended purchase of a Karoq).

I'm watching this thread with interest as a noob in terms of carrying things on the roof

Looking for recommendations on carrying bikes (1x Adult, 2x kids) mainly

I use Thule Freeride bike racks and as previously mentioned the Thule square bars and appropriate footpack for the estate.

I've had the freeride kit for nigh on 14yrs from new, they're about £60, and they're still in perfect condition. They rarely get used nowadays but back in my downhill days they were hardly ever off my Fabia!

If your looking for flexibility then go for "T-Track" roof bars. I can get a roof box (Kamei Delphin) and two bike carriers (Thule Pro-rides) on myself in minutes. No u clamps to do up just slides onto the bars. Check out The Roof Box Company as they are great to deal with for all budgets.

I've got Yakima Whispbars.  They are very quiet even at motorway speeds but not very cheap, (but cheaper than the Thule equivalents)
