Kia ora koutou mai i a Aotearoa

Featured Replies

Kia ora koutou (Hi everyone)

New [used] Skoda Superb owner from Aotearoa NZ.

The old 2005 Mazda 6 wagon got rear-ended.  Very sad to write it off as it was a perfectly good runabout but the panel-beating wasn't worth the insurance. 🙁

That said getting in a newer car & realising how much everything has moved on in the last decade - WOW! 😎

New motor is a 2016 Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI Sedan; 75,000km on the clock.

Massively impressed with the performance, handling & SPACE! - I'm a 6'4" yeti & even with the drivers seat set for me there's still room for me to get a full 2" of space between my knees & the front seat when I sit in the back.  And I swear the boot in our "sedan" is actually marginally bigger the the old Maz wagon!  Can just fit my pushbike in (with the wheels removed) without having to put the seats down.

I'll admit I'm a little anxious about some things I've read about the DSG transmissions, but we're pretty smooth & relaxed drivers so hoping that should all be fine...

With the state of the world at the moment a few quintessential Kiwi road trips to explore the country look much preferable to the overseas holidays of previous years, even more so with a very comfy car to enjoy them in.

Looking forward to enjoying this car for the next 10 years or so.

Ngā mihi mahana,

Hamish

Welcome.

Is it a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG you have.

I would not worry in NZ about this.

The 2012 World Wide Recall excluding Europe had them eventually being eligible for a cut price Service Campaign, but the Service Campaign in NZ had the DQ200's getting new MCU's where in other Countries / World Regions it was just a oil change and software update.

(Some like in China got a 100,000 mile / 10 year warranty added.)

Then with the next Service Campaign started in 2017 in Europe on 2013-2015 DQ200's, this is now a Recall that is being done in Australia currently.

Your 2016 car should not have issues and if there are then VW Group will likely be quicker on the ball to see you right better than they ever have in Europe where Courts / Authorities do not worry them.

Hello Hamish 👋

My first Skoda was a Mk1 Superb.  Class leading for room inside, had a feel of quality about it and was a joy to own.  A Merc driving colleague took the Michael about it for a while, then I suggested he come out in it, except as we got to it I gave him the keys.  Mickey taking stopped, and as we walked back to the office he looked back at the car and nodded - 'nuff said 😎
