Was just going for a Revo, when.....

....I suddenly thought, this lovely Mk1 of mine is still on its original clutch at 137,000 miles, and whilst it's not showing any signs of impending doom, I asked could they remove the map if it starts slipping as soon as I drive off? Oh yes, for a cost probably, and certainly for a re-install when you've replaced the clutch.

Think I'll give it a miss for now unfortunately

REVOs tunes are great but they don't specialise in diesels. There are other companies that will take into account the stock clutch and limit the torque as they see fit so you dont have clutch slip.

Remapping does mean your clutch will go out sooner regardless as will the turbo and dreaded DMF. If ever going for a map, avoid launch control too, that is aggressive and can kill the turbo, as I found out to my demise. "Popcorn" limiters also can cause damage but not as serious.

You're unlikely to drive it like Miss Daisy immediately after a remap.

In my experience, it will slip when:-

Giving it a sudden prod on the motorway when the traffic clears in front of you at speeds <censored but not stupid> in 5th, 6th.

Some time into a cross country jaunt on A/B roads that involve heavy pulls up through the gears to get back up to speed.

Mine was remapped around 22K miles. The motorway thing started happening after 12-18 months but was also a torque addiction thing as I previously hadn't simply jabbed at the accelerator (that brought on the slip). The cross country slipping started happening about 3-4 years ago. Car is on 120K presently and I've had it from new.

My car had done 90 odd K when the clutch went.

This wasn't brought on by a remap, but it was brought on by a restoration of power as I'd had my turbo bearing changed.

The car was so notably quicker post turbo fix that Shark had to check it was a factory map (it was).

So, I'd say in your case yeah, the chances are pretty high that your clutch won't hold out for long post remap.
