Which driving mode do you use?

Featured Replies

I'm pretty sure the differential settings are ONLY on the vaq equipped models.

The more I read about people getting annoyed with the sound generator the now I think mine doesn't actually work or is turned off.  I can hardly notice any difference I sound whatever the setting.

    Individual, like this

  • Sport.  I can't really see the point of the other two modes on a manual tbh.

  • As you can see from the above replies, you get two sets of answers depending on manual/DSG transmission. I used to have the same combo as you - VRS TDI/DSG and the same problems. Bogs down in hig

It may well not be working, it's a very obvious sound, like someone just dumped an Impreza Boxer engine in your engine bay when you select Sport.

So, eco reduces throttle response and makes the steering lighter. Since you have DSG then it also coasts when you let off the accelerator, which means downhill your mpg average will go up. In real terms it results in what I would call a very soggy throttle, which is great for avoiding over acceleration when maintaining speed but bloody awful for normal driving. In real terms it won't save you any fuel except for some specific driving circumstances like long downhill runs on the motorway for example

Thats shed some light! Think I'll stick to normal then.

Gonna have a tweak of individual too.

Cheers for your help.

YES! It is a touch boxer-y, it sounds quite out of place. Particularly at low RPMs.

Ah I see, that makes some sense. Considering how readily my GTi6 will light up the inside tyre, and how many more herbs this has, the VAQ must be doing a lot of silent work.

Yeah, I think it must be disabled or just not working then.

I tried setting individual to the same as sport yesterday just without the sound on.    I switched between that and sport several times and booted it each time.  I couldn't tell the difference.

Oh well, sounds like I'm not missing anything good then!

Works fine in my 230 VRs manual. I actually quite like it, when I'm on my own in the car that is. I tend to stick it in ECO when my Mrs or family members are in the car with me as I don't want them thinking I'm a massive boy racer!

I was actually contemplating a back box delete to make it sound a bit more meaty but for £500 at a local exhaust specialist they can tiddle off!

Not sure if a re-map might have more benefit for me?

Was quoted £150 to get my car up to 300BHP

I want drilled and vented brake disks next though 😎

£150 sounds very cheap for a remap. If it is that I would steer well clear and go to a reputable mapper.

I wouldn't waste money on drilled and vented disks. They dont really offer any better braking and usually you get small cracks around the drilled section after a while. You would do better upgrading the calipers to some 4 pot brembos.

As others have said it depends on what is on your car. I found with a Manual vRS without DCC or ACC the selections are pointless, however when I had a my Golf R with DSG, DCC and ACC they really came into their own and I ran pretty much all the time in Individual as i could have Normal DSG (Soundaktor turned Off by VCDS), sport ACC and Comfort DCC. If I need a burst just drop the DSG into Sport with the stick....... The car really feels 'connected' through the settings if you have all the electronic gizmos......
