Tailgate closed, still got warning lights

Featured Replies

Hi community,I m on holiday in Cornwall, and have acquired a problem.

The tailgate closes as per normal, but when I lock the car the maxi dot display display flashes boot open in red and the hazard warning light button also flashes inside the car. When I the car is driven then the warning chimes are on for a door open and the display flashes very briefly about the boot, but it is secured and locked in a practical sense, so any ideas??

Don’t want it flattening the battery when parked, as the display doesn’t go out, when it’s parked up.

Help from Hayle, Cornwall.

Hi Hamster. Is it actually locking ? Probably going to be a dealer visit... I had problems with mine not locking when it was cold and it took ages to sort. Ended up with the whole locking mechanism changing.

It will be one of two things: either the boot latch sensor has failed or you have a misalignment of the boot lid - stopping the boot lid from properly closing.

Yes it is definitely locked and pulled shut that extra bit.

I was convinced this was the problem with mine. Dealer realigned ... Didnt fix.. Changed boot latch... Didnt fix...

Then we are into the realms of wiring loom issues in that case (unless you have a power tail-gate - in which case, things get way more complex).  We will need a VCDS/OBDEleven output from the car to see what is happening (need error codes).

No they changed the locking mechanism. Fixed. I assumed the OP has a power tailgate as it's an SE L ?

Hi guys

have anyone fixed that issue

i have very same problem no one can figure it out what is happening

Maybe something to try, if you have some DIY skills:

There may be a proximity sensor hidden by the foldable plastic piece around the hook. To access this sensor, you need to remove the boot step.

I'm not fully sure, just making a comparison with my wife's Audi Q3, which has this kind of sensor to switch the taillights from boot to rear bumper when the boot is open.

Maybe worth to try...

No sensor like this on the superb.

the only latch sensor is located in the latch itself and it’s a small micro switch which is prone to failure a lot.

OK. Sorry if it was a bad tip...

I pulled up the striker bar a couple of mm. to ensure microswitch operated every time. Intermittent tailgate open alarms no longer occur
