Oh Deer...

Featured Replies

Heading home last night and saw a shape on the hard shoulder of the motorway. As I registered what it could be, the deer stepped out into the carriageway in front of me. Cue some cursing, emergency braking and a swerve, but the deer impacted the NS Front bumper and then the all the tires on that side (including trailer). A quick stop on the hard shoulder and I feel that I got away fairly lucky, one parking sensor popped out and some leaking washer fluid.

This morning I got the bumper off and found that the NS washer jet was fractured as well as the washer fluid bottle 😡 🤬 . The sensor was a simple fix in comparison, just requiring a bit of adhesive to glue the bracket back on to the bumper.

A quick google and I can't find whether the washer jet (5E0.955.965.F) is specific to the scout, or if I can use any 5E0.955.965 variant.

Likewise for the washer bottle 5Q0.955.449.BJ01S - is this likely to be specific to the scout? I've only found one on eBay from Lithuania.

Neither of those parts are expensive at a main dealer, so personally I wouldn’t mess around shipping from out of country.

How is Bambi?:whew:

Was probably listening to Planet Rock on the headphones and didn't notice the Skoda approaching and got a front row seat and a proper head banging moment.:tongueout:

Are you 100% sure that's all the damage there is?  I bumped into Bambi's brother last year. A fog light error lit up on the dash as soon as we met and on first inspection I thought I'd got away with no more damage. Even the foglight looked perfect but didn't work so I'm thinking total cost of damage is £1 for a new bulb.  By the time we returned home the emergency assist was complaining and upon really close inspection there were a few brush marks on headlight lens + smallest hairline fracture on bumper which you really needed to be up close to see. When I took it to the garage they opened the bonnet and found the top plastic cover over radiator split then pointed out a tiny dent on bonnet + the gap between bonnet and wing wasn't consistent. I was told the radar would need realigning and that on it's own was around £600 so I decided to contact my insurer.  £4114 later...

I've had the bumper off. There's a small crack in the surround for the fog light, but that, along with the previously mentioned damage seems to be all there is. Can't see anything else obvious. Luckily no front assist on this car.

Wasn't about to walk back down a dark hard shoulder on the M5 to look for it... Plus I think I've read somewhere that adrenaline in the blood can taint the meat.

I imagine the fact it probably shat itself when it realised it was about to be taken out would be another thing to factor into the tainting 😂

Joking aside, I hope the car's OK pal 👍

I clipped one two weeks ago luckily only doing 45 in a line of traffic when one ran  out from the treeline directly in front of me it was moving quickly so I just kissed it with the front divers side only evidence was a few hairs stuck to edge of wing. I believe it would have been fine and had a good war story to tell its mates.

It normally takes a few seconds for me before the movement is under way.
