Mk1 vrs wagon carbon canister

Featured Replies

Good afternoon,

A lot of people mention the evap system delete on the vrs, and I've been through the very in depth guides her and there. The idea of binning a system for filtering/ recirculating fuel vapour seems a bit odd to me though. I love the look of a clean engine bay, but I also don't want to get rid of something that sounds pretty important.

My vrs is a 2003 so it's getting on a bit now, has anyone got a realistic idea of the working life of the evap canister? If there's slim to no chances of it actually filtering anymore, is there any solid reason I shouldn't just run a hose directly from the feed to the canister, straight to the inlet and skip it entirely?

Any advice appreciated as always.

It works by a surface adsorption effect that is 100% reversible so it ought to last indefinitely.

Ah nice! Does reversible in this case mean I have to maintain it?

No.

Fumes 'condense' their hydrocarbon content onto the (huge) surface of the microscopic carbon particles. Then whilst the engine is running they are encouraged to 'evaporate' back off, and are merged seamlessly into the engine fuelling under electronic control.

Condense and evaporate aren't really the correct terms but probably simplify undetstanding.

Thanks, I think I hear you loud and clear. Don't touch it.

Much appreciated!
