Oil change Yeti dsg 7 speed automatic

Featured Replies

Advice needed.  I have a 2014 1.6 diesel with DSG 7 speed gearbox.  The water pump just failed at 50000 km so we changed the timing belt as well as the pump for 500 euros at a local service centre (national chain).  Now I think it would be prudent in the coming year to change the 'for life' gearbox oil.  Or no?  If yes, there is no filter to change, right?  And what type/quality of oil?  Synthetic, mineral?  Thanks...

There was a recall to change oil from synthetic to non synthetic but as long as that's been done no further oil changes are required.

It's technically "sealed for life".

But im going to be changing mine at some point.

I don't believe in sealed for life. Even in manual gearboxes (which is what the 7 speed is in reality).

The gearboxes also has 2 oils in it. The actual gearbox oil and then the mechatronics. They are sealed from eachother and completely different types of oil.

You need 2 litres for the gearbox (G052171A2) and 1 litre for the mechatronics (G004000M2).

Just a case of draining and refilling.

Thanks a lot... every time I ask the question I discover a bit more.  The references are very useful, looks like I need to get myself an oil pump and that drainhole adapter....

..and I'm right in assuming there is no gearbox filter to change on this type?  Which means I have to refill from below

@PhilEyre

No filter and it is not refill from below.

No idea why you are looking at changing the oil in a 2016 DQ200 DSG that has done only 50,000 km /31,000 miles.

The RECALL that @Expatman posted about was in 2012/13 on 2009-2012 DQ200 DSG's and was only a Service Campaign in Europe, not part of the world because VW are European and tell governments what is what.

So Service Campaign '34F7'  Changing oil and a software update.

2017 was another campaign started on some DQ200 DSG's from 2013-2015 and a Software update.

2015-2020 nothing, other than TPI's on the DQ200 DSG's for Clutches,

and in Australia another 'Recall' from boxes from 2009-2016 started in 2019.

That is the MCU issue again that the first Recall and the Service Campaigns should have had covered in Australia.

thanks for links etc...2 reasons to think of this oil change,  firstly it's a late 2014 (not 2016).  I bought it from an official dealer with at 14000 km and secondly there appears to some doubt about whether synthetic oil should be replaced by mineral?   I have no idea what's in there at present.

Sorry on the mistake with the year.

No Dealership Employees should be doubting the oil used from the factory.

The World Recall and European Service Campaign was 2012 and 2014.

What does need confirmed is that since built from 2012/2013 does it become one that '34H5' was for.

The preventative software update.

They need to check that.

From 2017 until 2019 '34H5' never showed on here and then the Australian Recall started and then cars did come up as requiring the 'Recall Action.
