Chattering on idle / low rpm - video

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’m glad to eventually sign up to the site, it has been a great resource since I got my Superb a couple of years ago.

I have a Dec 2017 1.6 TDI DSG 7 speed that  has recently started making a chattering noise when idling / low rpm when slowing down. This can also be felt very slightly as a vibration though the seat.  The car drives fine and changes gear etc perfectly, it’s just this noise that is puzzling me. I was wondering if it could possibly be EGR related? I work as a taxi driver and the car predominantly is used in town environment although I do make sure it is driven at higher rpm regularly  when on the motorway or A roads to help.
The car is always serviced every 10k miles and has been very well cared for.
I will try and upload a video in which the noise can be heard.
Any help or info would be appreciated.

that sounds like a failing DMF (flywheel)

what mileage are you on ?

Mileage is 64k

You could be right there. I was hoping that it wasn’t something that fails so soon on these cars though or maybe I’m just unlucky.

mileage is low really but it's certainly not unheard of.

it's quite likely the environment that cars used in if you're doing a lot of low speed driving in high gears, constant gear changing, sitting on idle that kind of things have the potential to degrade a DMF quicker.
