My car has a worrying noise which I suspect is the gearbox or the clutch? It occurs when the engine is hot and stops when the clutch pedal is pressed down. Car is a 12 plate 1.4 TSI manual. 
 

Any ideas on the cost of replacing a gearbox and a clutch?  🙄

Is it a DSG clutch?

 

Could be a few things, the release bearing, a bearing in the gearbox etc.

 

What kind of noise are you able to record the noise on your phone?

Sounds like it is a manual gearbox.

It would help if you could give more details: Year, engine code or type/capacity, mileage to date, confirm manual.

On higher mileage manual diesel cars it is usually caused by failure of the double flywheel. If so, change the clutch at the same time.

I have just had my gearbox ( manual 6 speed Octavia 1.2 tsi 2011), refurbished with all new bearings aso. I think skoda said that there was 6 bearings in total. Thay also told me that the 6 speed gearbox on these models are weak and that it is a common thing they go noisy.
I was also reccomended to change gearbox oil every 90.000 km, even though it is stated to last for life.
