OBDEleven Pro/VCDS Diagnostic Tools

Featured Replies

Hello, looking for some advice.

Wanting to buy a diagnostic machine for checking faults or maybe exploring coding later on. Was planning on buying it for my 2008 PD170 vRS with the hopes of upgrading to an 2016+ Audi A6 Quattro at some stage this year. OBDEleven seems appealing with the ability to use "Apps" to unlock features on the car and was wondering if there was much that can be done with PD170? Another reason I'm hesitant on the OBDEleven is that reviews are fairly mixed between good and bad and whether its worth buying as a diagnostic tool and unlocking new features or just investing in a dedicated diagnostic tool would be a better choice. As the PD170 has a DPF like most newer cars it would also be helpful to be able to scan the Soot level also.

Any guidance or advice would be appreciated! Or even other recommendations of tools!

I could type a big response to this, but I'll try and keep it brief.

  • Both OK
  • Get an autoscan from a VCDS user before you do anything with OBD Eleven though!
  • VCDS can scan non-VW group vehicles and reset codes, but can't change features on them to my knowledge
  • Newer vehicle will require a VCDS V2 interface (iirc)

I would personally go for VCDS because I've helped lots of friends, family and neighbours with stuff including people on the forums and people who messed stuff up badly (somehow!?) with OBD Eleven.

Thanks for the reply! I don't plan on using the apps now as I've chatted to another lad who said its better long coding rather than using those credit based apps. What I'm mainly looking for out of the tool is an error checker, dpf soot levels, electronic break release and maybe moderate coding but not on a mechanics level, as I'm by no means a mechanic 🤣

A Delphi DS150E type box should do the trick.
