Turbo spooling up?

Featured Replies

Hi,

just had new turbo fitted (160,000 miles) and I don’t think it’s powering up as it did

seems to be coming in later than it did.
Any idea when it should spin up or when I should start to feel the push?

It goes well but I think it’s a bit late coming in.
Im assuming it can be adjusted via the nut on the actuator rod, if you can get at it
and which way do I adjust it?

thanks

Max torque is somewhere around 1800-2200 RPM give or take.

Adjustment depends on whether you have a push or pull actuator, what is the engine code?

What was the reason for replacing the turbo?

Hi,

my problems started about 5 years ago with the car dropping into safe mode on a long motorway run but no warning light.
turn ignition off the start again cleared off we go.
Since then it would go into safe mode with no warning light and more importantly no faults logged in obd.
Replaced parts include throttle body and some sensors but the problem didn’t go away. Late last year it started and showed warning of overboost so eventually changed turbo. Not had a problem since then.
it was so bad that I’d be turning the ignition off and back on whilst free wheeling on the motorway.

engine is 2.0 140 tdi 2005 sorry not sure of the code.

As a rough indicator check your 0-60mph time and compare to published specs.

I had a similar problem and suspect you are just used to the faulty overboosted performance and your new turbo and acceleration times, whilst seemingly poorer, are fine.

The garage which carried out the replacement should have adjusted the turbo statically for a ballpark setting, only driving the vehicle connected with a logger would show any boost demand/actual anomalies.

It is a bummer when it feels less frisky but I hope my explanation helps.

Thanks for that.
the garage was prepared to put it on a diagnostic to check but Covid came along, I can’t get back to the garage for awhile.
It really goes when it comes in I’ll just get used to it
