Front assist unavailable

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The other day my 2016 Superb came up with front assist unavailable message. I was driving normally. I know this has been asked in the past, but it seemed to be on virtually new cars. Mine is 4 years old with 44000 miles on clock. Obviously out of warranty now so wanted any advice!

have you tried the settings in the gauge cluster

if you don't know how ill send you a video on my superb or kodiaq

also what mpg would you get from your superb as mine is coming tommorow

Its a 2ltr diesel, I'm averaging mid 40s, but I tow a folding camper with it!

If you could send a video that would be great, I'm not sure how to do it through media system.

Cheers

Ok ill send it on

It's a 100mb file so I couldn't send it

Hi,

Yeah sorry I got it. Didn't help though it still says unavailable. I think it needs recalibrating

I recently bought a 2016 Skoda Superb. Bought from a large car 'supermarket' not main dealer.

Initially the front assist worked as normal but after around a week I was getting the 'front assist not available' message and the ACC etc... would not work. This lasted for around 2 weeks when it all of a sudden on a long journey it started working again and remained working seemingly fine.

By this time I had contacted the garage I bought from and as it was under warranty they advised me to book the car in with Skoda to get this issue sorted.

Into the Skoda Dealer it went who advised me the front assist needed a re-calibration to the tune of £575. Now if I was going to be paying then I would not have had this done as it seemed to be back working fine again

however as it was covered on the garage warranty and they were covering the cost the re-calibration was carried out.

I don't know why it stopped working and Skoda couldn't tell me. There clearly was a problem at some point as it wasn't working but as I have read this seems to be a common problem and £575 for a re-calibration is rather steep.

I only bought mine in February not from a main dealer. I will look at warranty from them and see if it will cover it if it doesn't rectify itself!

Re-cal can be required for a number of reasons. Respray, minor bumper knock in car park, new wheels fitted, etc etc. If alignment was slightly off even a heavy load in boot could give an intermittent fault, or even just dirt or other impedance over one of the sensors  (the camera on windscreen or radar in bumper) will give warning.
Savage price for recal though. I bet if you ring around other dealerships have different prices. Seems like a bit of a lucky dip on recal pricing. Like they are making it up as they go along 🤷‍♂️

Try independent ADAS companies. Doesn’t have to be Skoda to recal. A good windscreen company will probably have the gear. But a really good panel beating company will have.
Many dealers, especially smaller dealers don’t have the gear. They will take car and prob have an independent do they recal anyway.
The recals are carried out to manufactures specifications no matter who does it, using the manufactures specified recal charts etc. I’m reckon it will be half the price.

Cheers, I was on a real choppy bumpy road towing a trailer when it started so I guess its probably knocked alignment out! I'll have a ring around

This happened to me. Just driving along and stopped working... I did start a thread somewhere have a search. Long and short it just needed a reset which the dealer did not a calibration.

Also - just check that your Sensor (mounted just below the bumper or in the middle of grill - is CLEAN!!! because if it gets too dirty, then it will stop working.
