Wish I was proud of my Fabia !!!

Featured Replies

Hello to everyone. I bought a Fabia 101 HP, 16v 1400cc in March 2002. I had too many serious problems with oil consumption. Now I have done 85K Km and tried to change oil from 10W40 semi-synthetic (Skoda's recommendation) to 0W30 FULL-synthetic Castrol SLX (this one cost me a fortune 22,5 Euro per litre). The engine consumed about 1,5 litre in 1000 Km. Oil went through the cyllinders and its gases short-circuited a spark plug (this is what the Skoda service told me). Know I also noticed oil leak from the carter. Skoda service team almost broke the screw on the carter. In addition, recycle button does not work due to electric problems. The driver's door is stuck (the mechanism doesn't work). Anticoolant is leaking and the dealer lied to me about the wiring for the sound system (told me wiring is set for the rear speakers (there is no wiring at all for the rear speakers). I also had to replace the water pump due to cold start problems. After all that . . . . I wish I was proud of my Fabia ! ! !

1.5 litres!!! Something seriously wrong there. :(

If you had problems with oil consumption on 10W40 then switching to 0w30 was asking for trouble!

Sound like you got the "Friday evening car" Sorry to hear about your troubles :(.

Just remember not all Fabias are like that.

Thats really bad whats happening with you.. thats alot of troubles man.. i have exactly the same model as urs.. i bought it 5 months ago when it had done 85k Kms and the car is perfectly fine.. im really happy with it

I went to a non Skoda service center. The job was GREAT there. It was very stupid to use 0W30. They put 20W50. Again the oil consumtion was 1litre at 2600 km. I have to replace my engine or spent at least 1000 Euros to fix it.

The high oil consumption will be down to worn piston rings... Speak to Skoda, IIRC they are still paying for half the cost of repairs, even for cars that are out of warranty.

At last! Someone else who has same problem with 1.4 16v engine's oil consumption (which apparently is 'normal' according to the handbook) and Skoda. New piston rings - yup i was quoted that and they offered £300 towards repair cost..........trouble is, will the new ones clog up the same as ones that are on it because of the excessive oil consumption - viscous circle????

Joolz

the rings are probably modified for better oil control , to do the job properly they would have to hone the bore to deglaze it ,so the new rings will bed in .the engine would have to be totally stripped to do this , so therefore an expensive job

hmmm no wonder I see so many 1.4 16v engined Fabia's for sale, may be stating a more common problem then we are aware of. But this info has edged me more towards the TDi or VRS option.... still not sure though (Probally the VRS)
