Signaling Recall for Superb, anyone else?

Just back from having the recall work done.

 

Got back in the car to find that the bulb failure light was on & Maxidot was telling me to check the rear right reversing light (when checked, both were functioning fine).

 

Straight back into reception to point this out and the person from behind the desk came out to take a look. His first response was 'LED rear lights weren't standard on these were they?'

 

After I'd pointed out that this was a facelift model and LED rear lights were standard he said he'd get a technician to have a look.

 

Technician came back after 20 minutes to tell me it was fixed and when I asked what might have caused the problem I was told that the car must have just chosen that moment to throw an error..🤨

 

Given that the whole reason the car was in there was to have the lighting control module (and specifically error reporting from same) updated I have my doubts that the software update was completed correctly the first time, or at the very least any errors the update might have flagged certainly weren't cleared and checked before the car was handed back to me which is a bit sloppy.

 

Given also that the car wasn't cleaned as promised, I'm not overly-impressed & it's only confirmed my desire to stick with my independent VAG specialist for any future work that doesn't absolutely have to be done by a dealer.

 

If you are getting yours done, I'd keep an eye on the dash..

Hello Alan,

 

In theory, it's probably a good idea to get it done so that the car's records remain up to date but as always it pays to make sure that the dealer knows what they're doing. 😏

Hi,

I see your point, but I wonder whether this would really be of any value to a 7 year old car; I don't think it would make any difference to the resale value (not that I'm planning to sell it, I've owned it since new and like the motor car). I read your piece above about having a few problems after your visit to the dealer... and still I wonder.

Ha ha - a very good point. It’s down to personal preference I guess. Going on my most recent experience I’ll be checking whether my regular specialist can do recall work next time as I trust him far more than the main dealer I went to. 🙃

Thank you for that - and I agree - but I'm still minded not to bother getting this done by Škoda. I've just read the Škoda letter again, and I really wonder whether a software update regarding the sensitivity of the front indicator monitor is worth half a day in Northampton and a 50 mile round trip. If my car was still under warranty and being serviced by a main dealer I would of course get the work done, but it is 7 years old and has been looked after by a local independent garage for the last 4.

 

I might see if the independent garage can get hold of the software patch for next year's service - like you I slightly mistrust main dealers (and rather suspect a dealer may use the opportunity to fabricate some other pressing requirement that the perfectly competent independent has somehow missed).

 

Perhaps the front indicators on my Superb estate will suddenly go haywire causing the motor car to spontaneously combust whilst triggering a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic :-(
