****ing car!!!!

Featured Replies

Ive got this rattle and is really peeing me off.

When reving to exactly 1,200rpm and when the engine is under a small amount of load, ie, put the handbrake on and lift the clutch a little, just enough so the rear squats a bit, there is a ****ing rattle:mad: it sounds exactly like the exhaust if rattling against the underside of the car, very fast rattle. So went to the garage, put it up on the ramp and the exhaust is clear of the car all the way down!!!!!

So, tried reving it etc to let the guy here the problem, and it didnt rattle!, so drove off, it started again!!!!!! then went back the next day, didnt do it! drove off down the road, did it again   but its not a bumpy road thing, as it does it with the handbrake on.

Ive now been to the garage 5 times, and each time it stops doing it, but when im not at the garage it does it!!!! the guy has told me not to come back as im wasting his time!!!

Is there anything else under there that will make this noise, i thought maybe the heat sheilds? cat? not sure................ but the look he had there is nothing wrong????

I just dont want to goto another garage and it stop again, blumin car

Check the exhaust centre mounts ;) looks OK but can knock against the heat shield.

Is it a completely standard car?

I had a similar rattle and Skoda spent a day looking for it. They said they couldnt find anything but had heard it so would like the car back another day. In the week between appointments I noticed the rattle had gone. Not much use to you I know, but it shows how it can be something simple that they obviously knocked out of the way or tightened etc.

Could it be the baffles inside the exhaust?

how about taking said bloke from said garage out in the car with you... providing he's got time of course... at least then he could hear the noise as well and you wont look like the numpty he thinks you are for going in with what he see's as a car with no faults.

If the rattle occurs when the car is stationary (as you imply in your first post), try asking someone to have a listen - may be able to trace down the source of the sound.

Agreed

ask to speak to the service manager at the garage you took it too

its not very good customer service to tell you you are wasting there time  - i am a service advisor at a vw dealer if i said that to a customer

i would get f*****d for it

i had the same problem mate its the bracket in the center of the exhaust it rusts and snaps they cost about £80 for a new one but the bloke in the garage put a big juibilee clip on it does the same job plus it dont cost a fortune

check yours out mite be the same

cheers for the advise guys.

It wasnt a mainstream dealer, more of a small garage up some back road, i had been there before as was recommended they do a good job, but are cheap, and yes when i had my BMW they helped me out a few times with some problems, however not going back since this!! they prob have never heard of a service manager!!! :)

Tried to get him to come out in the car, but he is always too busy, and when he stood next the car, and looked under it, the car didnt make the noise, no matter what i did!!!

I have the car booked into Skoda next week to plug it into VAG COM to check out another possible problem, so will ask them to have a quick look whilst they have it, mind, at £50 an hour, hope it doesnt take long!!!!

Or i may put it up on a high kerb and crawl under to have a look at this bracket, maybe its nackered?? wierd thing is, when i test drove the car before i bought it, it didnt make this noise, i noticed the silencer was a little wonky, so asking them to straighten it, which it now is, but the noise as been there since, so i wonder if they did something when adjusting it???

Anyway, thanks again for the advise...........

Wonky exhaust? It's the centre mounts gone. Glad Lummox agrees with me too

The rubber mounts can also sag causing excessive play in the exhuast. Mine will rattle too at low revs and that is my problem (I think).

whicked, cheers for that, will get them to check more closely next week..... :)

I had an annoying rattle from a new rear exhaust box. The problem was always there when the exhaust was cold but disappeared when the exhaust was hot - hence I was unable to demonstrate the fault each time I drove the car back to the exhaust supplier. The problem went when I eventually replaced the exhaust with a genuine Skoda part.

nah, mine is there hot or cold, its driving me mad!!! but why does it make the noise at 1,200rpm only??
