2015 4x4 Black Edition - ok to have different tyres front to back ?

Featured Replies

We've just got another Yeti (our 7th including company-run ones !)

We have always had 4 matching tyres on our cars, but this one has come with a different pair front and back. The fronts are cheap but ok (have had on other cars)  Westlakes with 6mm tread but the rear cheapos need replacing.

My question:- If I move the Westlakes to the back and buy some All Season Goodyears or Michelins for the front is that a problem? Or should I fit two more cheap Westlakes ? I can't afford £4 x £120 fitted as the cambelt needs doing.

If you get 2 all season tyres I'd fit them to the back, could be very tail happy if fitted to the front in anything other than perfect driving conditions.

Should NEVER have different tyres on different axles. Either fit 4 summer, 4 winter or 4 all season tyres because any combination is dangerous for you, your family and other road users.:notme:

Er... this is our 102nd car - just looking for specific Yeti 4x4 advice?

We had a 350 SLK which had winters on the back and all seasons on the front because Michelin didn't make winters to fit the narrower front wheel size. Mercedes actually recommended that combination to us ?

To calm us all down, I have ordered 4 x Goodyear Vector All Season ;)

I've got those on my Yeti, superb with very comfortable ride and exceptionally quiet. Replaced having to change from summer to winter tyres twice a year.

Great stuff. My other half reminded me that she had the original Goodyear Vectors on her Toyota Corolla 4wd estate (remember those back in 1990!?) and she ruled the outside lane of a snow-covered M20 one Friday evening on the way to the ferry for a ski trip.
