EPC and ASR lights :(

Featured Replies

Hi my mk1 vrs has been brilliant until a few days ago when it started being a pain in the ***.

First the asr light kept coming on and would go off when cycled the ignition and would return when it felt like it.

But now it is being joined by epc light and also limp mode. I do get random fault codes.

17705

16486

16514

17972

I have been looking at this for couple days and can't come to a 100% answer, I have a few culprits In mind just wanna see if this is a common thing and anyone has come to a conclusion.

Cheers.

You have some interesting codes there, have you driven through any deep water recently?, if not, I would be doing some checks on your oxygen sensor votages, and a live read of your MAF through VCDS.

I would also check your battery fiuse box has no terminals starting to melt, as some of those codes relate to battery under voltage. Have you done any battery voltage checks yet?, if so, what were the readings?. Did you clear down the codes to see which ones return?, if not I would do that next.

This could very well be wiring connections rather than a unit failure, so don't panic yet.

Hi

I do need to check the o2 sensor with multimeter as that is a possibility. And the maf sensor on obd seemed to be OK on testing. I have checked the fuse box on the battery and it is perfect so no worries there, and also done a full battery and alternator test twice one first thing in the morning and on at the end of the day as thought battery was dropping over night.

I have cleaned the throttle body and the maf sensor all 4 coil packs have been replaced.

The only codes that came back up was 16514 and 17972.

Just gonna go through and check all connectors and wiring and go from there. A lot of people say it's the maf causing the issue but we will see.

Cheers for the reply.

Have you checked you main earth points underneath the battery tray yet?. also there is an earth point near the ecu under the scuttle panel on the plenum valley.

if your plenum drains are blocked, that maybe temporarily immersing the earth itself in water until it dries out rather than drains away as it should,

I haven't checked them yet but thank you for the advice I will have a look as soon as I can.
