Wiring Loom Transplants

Featured Replies

I have just merged a wiring loom from a donor petrol 'Comfort' model into a classic spec 1.9 SDi to support the central locking, electric windows and electric mirrors which have been transplanted into the diesel. Would a Howto be any use ? No point me writing one if nobody would use it.

Think this is going to become an increasing issue for Mk1 owners so yes. I would like to know how long it took you to do it.

Once I had done the research on the factory wiring diagrams the actual changes took a few hours and maybe a day to swap the entire rear loom. The front half of the car is still in classic spec as I only wanted the creature comforts. The petrol air con engine mountings are different from the 1.9 SDi mounts so I didn't bother transplanting that.

The reality is that there are not that many differences in the loom and the wiring and wiring colour codes are common in both cases. All the bits I needed I extracted from the defunct classic loom so no extras are required except a really good soldering iron.

Can't have too much info on the web, so please do share.

Some upgrades are thought to be 'too hard' by a lot of folk if they involve wiring changes, so your info ought to be especially valuable in making one of those more accessible to more people.
