It is only really serious if you can't clear the warning, and then all is not lost as you would go to a dealership or other garage to try a forced regen.

Ok. I thought I had read somewhere that the DPF does not like at all getting bunged up repeatedly to the point of having to give a warning.

When you first get the warning, the car is telling you that you need to follow the instructions in the manual to clean the DPF because it has not been able to complete an automatic regen by itself. This is probably because your journeys have not been long enough for this to happen, but no serious damage has occurred at this point. Provided that you follow the instructions and clear the warning the DPF will be OK.

If you have an OBD11 reader and smartphone VAF DPF app gives you all information.
The screenshot here was with a cold engine, the DPF changes colour when it is regenerating.

^^This is what you need.^^

I have a sixth sense on when mine is near a regen and use VAG DPF to confirm it, If needed I just go for a drive until its finished.

If you need to force a regen there is another app called Carista that allows you to do that.

This is an old thread but just to show what VAG DPF shows during a DPF regeneration, also note that it's 515 miles since the last regeneration, I put that down mostly to using Archoil AR6900-D Max at 50ml per 50 litres of diesel at every fill.

I'm down to about 100 between regen unless I'm towing when it can be up to 230m, despite using Archoil for the last 65K miles.

What RPM was the differential pressure measured at?

1000 rpm raised tickover as I could only do that when I was parked.

I rev mine to the maximum 2.5K rpm while parked using VCDS, there is little or no pressure drop at 1kRPM but a significant amount at 2.5k, figures from the top of my head from a few days ago, 500kms since last regen, calculated soot load 13. something grammes, measured 3 or 4 grammes, differential pressure at 2.5K rpm about 38 whatevers, probably hectopascals.

17 at tickover looks very high to me but I would have to check my previous readings to be sure.

I recommend you do the test at the standstill rev limit.
