Towing with Yeti - which gear mode ?

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda yeti TDI 4x4 my15.  It has a 3rd party towbar with a universal wiring thingy.  So, when towing, should I just leave it in Drive - use it in Drive but manual override - or should I use Sports mode - or a combination ?

Car has a max tow capacity of about 1800 kg and the van I'm towing is max 1300kg - so plenty of room.

Thanks

99% of the time it will be fine in Drive.

If you feel on a hill or overtaking you need a lower gear just drop into sport or manual,

Exactly that.  Even towing our big Elddis with the original Yeti, which was near the mark, I could trust the DSG to make the right decisions.  Just occasionally, on a long hill, might I use S to let the motor spin up a bit, but this was probably quite unnecessary.

The only part of DSG towing that felt uncomfortable was reversing, especially on wet grass or uphill, when 'feeling' the clutch in isn't possible.

Anyway - enjoy!
