Limp mode over 85mph. Code P0234

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

It's a firs time I'm actually writing on forum. I'm just looking for some advice if possible.

Just bought a Roomster 1.4 tdi mk1 with 105.000 mi on clock.

Driving from the garage was absolutely fine until I'm hit the motorway and tryed to see how it's runs. As soon as it reaches 85mph car went to limp mode with lack of power, low rpms and orange management light.

I stopped on next serfice restart the engine and its back to normal just light on dash stays on but after a while it's off.

After I get home I was driving round the town and about trying to faul come back. I was revving it, pulling hard, booting and alsorts but the car was driving well until I went to motorway and on speed 85 mph its happened again, I tryed again and a same thing.

After connecting cheap OBD reader the code stored was P0234 turbocharger, engine boost condition - limit exceeded.

Car drivers wery well with out any issues untill you go over 85mph.

So is it a genuine fault with the car or its just some kind of speed limiter?

Apologies for long topic, just trying to explain as much as possible.

P. S. 85mph only been done for a quick test after I bought the car. And I glad I've done that and discovered this issue as garage gave me 1 months limited warranty

Thank you in advance

I think the fault code may be a red herring if the fault is road speed related. Try checking that all 4 tyres are actually the same size, and set to the correct pressures.

Sorry S, but I'm surprised no one else has said this, dont take offence.

Regarding your 85mph, just do 84mph and all will be ok. 😂

Can you replicate the condition in lower gears and same engine rpm? For example, is it turbo or engine rpm related? Does the engine go into limp mode in third gear at same engine rpm?
