Replacing driver's side mirror indicator LED light on 2011 Superb Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I've tried to look on YouTube, but I've been unable to find it.

I'm looking for a video (or advice) on how to replace the driver's side mirror indicator LED light on my Superb Elegance.

I've attached here 2 photos of my driver's side mirror.

I've been told I should unclip the actual mirror plate, and replace the indicator LED light through that way.

Alternatively, I've been told I should unclip the case of mirror, with a "credit card", remove the case, and replace the indicator LED light through that way.

Do you have any suggestions on how I can do this job on my own (as opposed to sending my car to the garage), please?

Your advice will be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

I think they are pretty much the same as the Octavia.

In which case, the mirror comes off first. Then there are two screws and clips holding the coloured outer case on which can be tricky. Then two more screws and clips holding the indicator.

Due to the screws, I don't think the credit card method with get you anywhere...

As Langers2k says, the mirror has to come off first. After that, it's pretty much a case of following your eyes and removing screws / unclipping as you go. It's not a difficult job by any means, and shouldn't take more than 30 minutes or so. I'm sure there are guides on here and / Youtube, so have a good search if you're at all nervous. But to be honest, getting the glass off is the most nerve-wracking part. I was convinced mine would snap in half when I did it. But it doesn't, so have faith! I would highly recommend some plastic pry tools for getting the glass off though. I would still be nervous tackling it with anything too rigid.

All the best with it.

A good starting point

Thanks for your email!

How can the mirror come off first, please?

Would you push the sides?  Would you push the top?  Would you push the bottom?  Would you pull the sides?   Would you pull the top?  Would you pull the bottom?

I just want to make sure I'm doing the right method.  I certainly don't want the mirror to break/crack.  I certainly don't want any clips (that hold the mirror in place) to crack/snap.

Many thanks in advance!

Push the top left corner in, pull from the bottom right, it is very strong don't worry. (this is for drivers side, top left is top nearest the car window, so top right if passenger side)

Good morn,

I did this job a few years ago and recall it was fiddly but pretty simple, here is a link to my notes:

Many thanks, so far!

Here are 02 photos of the inside of my mirror.

I'm trying to follow Othen's instructions from his post dated 22 March 2018.  I still cannot figure out which screws come out first.  Can anyone further assist, please?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm guessing you have seen this:

1. Remove the mirror glass, disconnect the heating element wires - you have done this bit.

2. Remove the downlighter bulb.

3. Remove the 2 Torx head machine screws.

4. Remove the 2 Torx head self tapping screw securing the top half of the mirror housing and the two catches, then gently lever up the top half and remove it.

5. Unclip and remove the bottom half, with the repeater light unit still attached.

6. Remove the 2 Torx head self tappers holding the downlighter bulb holder and remove it to expose the screws securing the repeater unit.

7. Remove the 2 Torx head self tappers attaching the repeater unit to the bottom half of the mirror housing and disconnect the wiring block from the light unit.

All the Torx screws are T10.

I can't remember exactly, and i forgot to take photos at the time. If I do recall correctly there is no need to remove the motor itself - just the upper and lower plastic shrouds that are held on by the various torx screws I've listed above. Take your time, leave the motor alone and the order in which the screws come out should become obvious as you gain access.

Take some photos as you go to remind yourself how it goes together.

Good fortune,

Alan

I think it's these two screws to start with, then the painted outer case should come off. Just be careful of the plastic clips near each screw.

... I'm pretty sure you are right - the OP can check by seeing if they screw into the plastic shroud, if so they are the correct T10 screws.

... all done?

Yes... all done!

It took me almost 2hrs though, sorting out rusty screw and worn screws etc.

I've managed to crack 1 or 2 clips, but nothing major.

The only thing is that the top case is slightly out of line when refitting it.

I might have another go at it another time).

However, the indicator LED light is now fitted and working absolutely fine!

Many thanks for all the advice and suggestions.  Very helpful indeed!
