Under body protection

Featured Replies

Ok Daft question,  I have one of the last [ 2017 ] Yeti outdoor, it seems to have some smoothing sheeting under the body,  is this only on the outdoor and what is the purpose as I have the 1.2 front wheel drive so I'm unlikely to venture too far off the beaten track. Any ideas or comments please

Metal or plastic?

Its not the engine undertray that you are speaking of is it?

I have a 4x4 Yeti Outdoor and it does not have any additional protection other than the chocolate teapot silver plastic bumper inserts.

All models have an engine under tray, as it is supposed to improve the aerodynamics and reduce fuel consumption. In fact it is common on nearly all cars nowadays.
And speaking from experience, even the standard ones are quite resilient to knocks.
A stronger and thicker plastic "sump guard" (undertray) along with a few other protection bits was available as part of the Rough Road Package. Skoda have never offered a metal "sump guard" in the UK.

Thanks for reply's, yes there is an engine under tray and there seems to be panels running down either side and ending in a 'comb' looking bar each side.

Also what is the significance of ' outdoor Yeti '  ?

They are protecting the diesel cooler & pipework etc and the comb you describe I think is the heatsink, I have never seen the point in them and nearly jacked up on one that was covering the chassis rail, they could be for NVH perhaps?

Marketing, I think its bumper inserts & a slightly higher stance, probably some other unnecessary  stuff as well.

Nope!
The only Yeti's that were "lowered" were the Greenline models, all others were exactly the same, Urban or Outdoor.
And any other difference were purely cosmetic, like differently painted bumpers.

Diesel cooler? No idea there was such a thing!

The underbody plastic protection sheets save the metal floor from "gravel rash", and acts as a warning/sounding board when you have to scrape over rocks. I think the end bit is the lowest part of the body, and if no noise, no underbody contact . I'm on my second set of underbody protection, and also got a few scrapes on the plastic diesel tank.

Serious reading of the road surface to take evasive action means our urban 4x4s can mostly go where timid  JLR owners go - but you can't call a Yeti a proper offroad vehicle, more a soft roader.

And?
All I see is the standard under engine shielding.
Why are you concerned?

Hi, I’m not concerned I was just curious but other posts say they are an extra specification so they are not ‘ standard ‘ ?

either way I’m glad I’ve got them 😜

No, I think you have misunderstood.
ALL models get a plastic undertray, as shown in your photos, but what you could do is order the Rough Road Package which provided EXTRA fitments plus a slightly different under engine tray.
I have had both:
My first Yeti was the same as shown and even the standard undertray was quite resilient to knocks and scrapes, as I proved many times. The second Yeti had the RRP and it looked almost the same underneath but the under engine tray was thicker and made of a different plastic and was VERY resilient.

I read in a review somewhere that the Outdoor bodywork has a steeper angle of attack for tackling rough terrain.

Then the reviewer was incorrect.

It's possible that the review was comparing an Outdoor model to the earlier pre-facelift cars.  The older cars stick out quite a fair bit further at the front which means you risk sticking the nose in the ground when you come up against a sudden incline.
