Windscreen leak

Featured Replies

Hi All! :)

I'm having trouble figuring out why water is coming into the footwells. At first it seemed that a hole in the scuttle (which I think used to be filled up with a plastic door) was causing water to trickle down onto the cabin air filter and into the car. So I shoved tape over that, see first photo.

Checked with hose pipe for leaks seems fine but temporary fix. But from somewhere else water seems to seep in and drip onto the cabin air filter. This seems to be the culprit, see second photo.

Under the rubber flap of the scuttle along the windscreen is a black plastic rectangle seal, which is not part of the scuttle. There is a gap on both passenger and driver side, see above for passenger side. Does everyone else's look like this? I had a windscreen change, I don't know what it looked like before.

If this gap in the black rectangle in the second photo above is normal, then could I have some tips for solving this annoying leak? Should I be getting a new scuttle, and if so, where from? Many thanks in advance!

@choclit18 I would've guessed it's coming from under the pollen filter behind the scuttle panel.

So, take it all off, and remove the pollen filter and the plastic surround, to the right you'll see a small little grommet (if there is one), this goes straight to the back of the glovebox. Best way to see it is to remove the glovebox and look to the back and up (about 11/12 o'clock) and you'll see the sunlight shine through. I'd replace this with a new one which can be picked up from halfords or grab a whole load of ebay in various sizes.

The tape as it is will do nothing...

I've found a topic where Tomlin8 had the same problem.

I'm missing the same extra shield that fits underneath the scuttle. I guess I've been missing this part since my windscreen was changed

Does anyone know where I can get a new one? I'll start searching for it online...

If the problem persists after fitting the new part I'll try changing the grommet, thanks, DeanVRS20VT!

That's normal as far as I'm aware. I had a new windscreen in April and both the original that came out and the replacement had the same gaps.

As for taping over the hole, mine was missing the plastic plugs on both sides until I bought a second hand replacement & water wasn't getting in.

hole in the scuttle

Your other possibility is that the drains through the back edges of the front arches are choked.

Hi everyone!

No more puddles in the front passenger footwell.

The problem was underneath the scuttle there is a tray that diverts water from going on to the pollen filter. My tray was missing, god knows why, either after a careless service or a careless windscreen change, someone had broke it.

After searching car breakers etc. Finally I gave up and bought a new one from a Skoda dealer for about £25 then installed it myself. A very doable job. Cheers everyone for the help.
