Chrome delete. Easy & cheap

Featured Replies

Thought I'd share an easy and very cheap £6.50 chrome delete.

So basically looked online. Quite pricey for just a black bit of trim. Thought I would take a chance on doing it my self.

Stripped the grill off the car and cleaned the chrome piece with a degreaser.

I then used Halfords black bumper paint £6.50. Apply lots of thin coats. 9-10 coats. Roughly 2/3rds of a can.

I am massively pleased with the out come and have attached a few pics.

Looks great, do you have any instructions on how you removed the trim please?

There is 4 screw's on the top panel. And the rest just prys out.

My days of worrying what car styling looks like are well behind me but I had to remove & repair my chrome grille as it had a break in it from the accident, new chrome ones were too expensive and the black Monté Carlo ones silly money so after the repair I painted mine black as well & then a protective coat of 2K lacquer.

It does indeed look 100 times better and it makes you wonder why they made them chrome in the first place, it looks so out of place with the black and silver elsewhere.

I did the same thing but after a while stone chips have started peeling the paint off the chrome.

Yeh that is possible. Nothing so far on mine. If so will redo it. Not a big job
