Adblue consumption

Featured Replies

Hi, new to Adblue so no experience.
bought car in February and the display said 5000 miles to go.
now 6 months on and over 2000 miles it still says 5000 miles.
So my question is how does this work. Does it go 5000, 4999, 4998 etc or 5000, then zero. Or something in between.
I like to be prepared so I like to know how it works. So why has it not moved?

i hate the car telling me when it needs services etc as I don’t trust it yet. Much prefer to be in charge.

just need reassurance that it’s not broken but I do expect it to show some change.
Just one more question what capacity is the Adblue tank. How much to fill up from empty do I buy litres 5 litre or 10 litre

thanks

Usually drops in 500 miles per time, but then you are driving in a way that AdBlue is not being gulped only sipped so your range of AdBlue is not dropping yet.

Next time your AdBlue gets topped up the Range might show 5,500 or even 6,000, and the time after that maybe more again.

Buy 10 litres and if all is not required you have it safely stored someplace to use.

Or use a Filling Station with an AdBlue pump and if the Filling Station Operative says only for Commercials tell them you are a Commercial Traveller.

Thanks.
I do very little town traffic and good motorway trips which may explain why it’s not going down

I read that Adblue deteriorates if exposed to daylight so I’ll buy some when the time is right.
any idea of the tank capacity?

thanks for the link but as I said I hate technology being in charge, it’s an age thing 😄

This is normal for a new car. Mine started at 5.000km and gradually rose up to 10.000 and only then started to decline. With the 10.000km on the clock now it says 5.000km. It actually measures the AdBlue consumption and tank content and calculates on that. In time the display will start to show the actual amount of AdBlue to add (min and max). I think that the AdBlue tank capacity is 12 litres. The step of the AdBlue range counter is 500km for the metric setup. I would guess that it is 500mi for the Imperial.

AdBlue tank capacity

One thing I will mention with Ad-Blue; its REALLY messy stuff.  DO NOT GET IT ON THE PAINTWORK.

Yes, my Scout has a 10 litre tank; gives me between 5-6k miles.

AdBlue is messy full stop, so do not get it on anything, so do not spill.  PITA with cars with the filler in the boot.

Paintwork is easy to get it off, water does that, but then it is on the ground.

As to AdBlue deteriorating in light, that is simple, you put a cover over the container as you might with Birds in a cage.
