Android Auto Smartlink

Featured Replies

I have a rather peculiar issue here, wondering if someone else has had this issue. I am quite certain this is google issue.

So my mic in the car works (If i connect via bluetooth), when i Receive calls I can pick up and the other side can hear me. Now in the car if I say "hey google" or "okay google" (whilst connected via usb to android auto) the voice assistant activates waiting for me to say something. But when I talk it doesn't register.

Now here is the really peculiar bit... It does start working after a while of me fiddling trying to get it to work etc. I'm not sure exactly what triggers it to start working, but it does.

so, any ideas?

I believe I have a Columbus MIB2, the part number is: 3V00335020C

With my Android Auto, "ok google" won't hear me unless I've played some audio through it.

So mine is set to autoplay music upon connection, hence when I give my command - it listens no problem.

I will test this today. Maybe play something through it first to see if it comes "alive" after.

Out of curiosity autoplay music is using native android auto or something like tasker?

I've found that when that happens on mine its usually because my phone has lost data connection. The joys of living out in the sticks 🙄

That was my first thought. However, when you talk you can see the colourful bars oscillate, however they don't. But if there is a lack of connection after initial oscillation, you get loading / circles spinning to show connecting server. Unless I'm mistaken.

It's in the settings for Android Auto.

See image below.

Do it via ur phone.  U can't access the settings through the infotainment screen.

Mine will resume playback with Spotify.

Thanks for that. So i tried this yesterday. Played some music, after which tried speaking but it still didn't work. But after about 5 minutes i tried again, and it worked perfectly every time, until the next time i turn the car off.

I think you may have to have the volume turned up to hear it. Having audio playing is needed for this?  Also it's possible that the mic is muted when you are not playing audio?  Just ideas to help pin down the issue.

It is a rather peculiar problem and if you go on the google forums you can see I am not the only one who has this issue. People have been describing a similar issue for newer updates of google auto. There is a visual confirmation of the system is listening to you, which doesn't occur when I claim its not working. Lets see, I will get to the bottom of this.
