Use traffic sign recognition to adjust adaptive cruise control

Featured Replies

As the title states, is there a way to adjust the cruise control speed to match that of the traffic sign recognised by the camera automatically?

I think that's only available on cars with predictive cruise control and your 2016 car won't have that.

Understand pACC uses maps data. From a logic point of view it seems simple enough... Detect traffic sign, if ACC on adjust speed.

I was just thinking maybe some custom code via vcp

My ACC wont let me set it for 70mph if it thinks it is in a 60mph limit area, even though it is not. Similarly it comes up with a warning if the speed limit changes from 70mph to 60mph. Is this usual?

I have PACC on my new L&K.  I'm not convinced that its working properly yet.  If I go from say a 30mph zone into 60mph zone, as seen by the car on the road signs regardless on my cruise speed setting the speed is re-set to that on the sign, being 60, which is not what I want to happen. It works in reverse really well which is Ok so that you do not break the limit.  I think there should be an option setting to cover this feature.

I've also noted that there is considerable danger sometime when approaching a roundabout in PACC mode. The car identifies the roundabout (message on the screen) and slows down before reaching the roundabout, however the speed that car is often to fast to get around safely and I have to brake suddenly.  At other times I get a message on the display saying "bend speed XX" and it slows to that speed which is Ok then speeds up again.

I suspect that this id due to poor mapping info and not the car, however together is sill leave very wary of letting the car this feature.

I wouldn't want to do this.  I tend to drive with the speedo just over the posted limit.  Why?  Because when the car thinks it is doing 30mph it is actually doing 27-28 and you will get tailgated aggressively everywhere.  With cruise on 33 i am doing about 30-31 so won't get a ticket and people behind me are less aggressive.

When I used a tomtom I used to drive through 50mph average speed zones at 55 on the tomtom and 59 on the speedo and never got a ticket (for that).  Getting older I don't use so much of the margin (10% plus 2) now.

I've not noted any restriction on the speed being set above the road signed speed.

I would like to see an option on settings that allows you to override the auto speed changes based on the road signs since I often choose a speed that suits me, say 45mph, in a 50 zone, and happy to stay with 45mph. However when the car detects a 60pmh sign it automatically speeds up to 60 which I then have to change again back to something slower.

I'm not sure but I think I,ve seen the car detect the max speed limit sign, (as used on all road types to notify drivers that you can go at the max speed for the type of road), and it sometimes sets the ACC speed to 70mph, which is wrong for "B" roads (should be 60mph), many of which are not even safe above about 45mph.

I think SKODA / VW have failed to do enough research into driving style and National speed signs and have made too many bad assumptions about how the predictive part of cruise control should work.  It needs many more tailoring options, starting with an off option for the predictive part.
