Potential DSG/ mechatronics unit issue, HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi all!

New to Briskoda, good to meet you all!

Hopefully you can help. Having some intermittent issues with the paddle shifters on my 2012 Octavia Cr170. I’ll get straight into the symptoms. The best way to describe this issue...

- Rare days I can use both paddle shifters on the steering wheel, say once every gazillion blue moons. The up shift never seems to work. However when it does spring to life, it works fine for a good couple of days, then nothing again.

- Most days I only get down shift. Down shift works fine pretty much all the time.

- On a rare day, I’ll get nothing

Today I’ve discovered that if I hold the up shift button (trying all different tactics to see if it works, to no avail), it disables the down shift. So neither of them work, until I restart the car, then I just get down shift back...

Can anyone shed any light on this? Im reading some forums suggesting a DSG error software update available, or faulty mech unit? I’m sure the obvious advice is get it plugged into VCDS by mister mechanic but I was wondering if it’s happened to anyone and if there is a simple tool that could reset something of some sort?

Many thanks in advance!

Is it just on the paddle shifts? Or the gear lever too?

Up and downshifts ok in D and S?

Hi Phil-E,

Should’ve explained, yup, up and downshifts on the lever are solid and work consistently. As does the step down button on the accelerator.

I should also add, I’ve heard the same software update could be required if it’s trying to change up to sixth at sillily slow speeds, is this related in anyway?
