wonky locking problem

Featured Replies

I hate car electrical systems. Really, really, hate them.

4x4 estate, 51'reg, went in for a cambelt change at just under 60k. The mechanics have obviously had the battery out/uncoupled for a bit as everything has reset- no problem there. However, all of a sudden, my keyfob remotes aren't working properly.

I usually press Unlock once to open the driver door only, and twice to open all the doors and the tailgate. The same system works with the key in the door- turn once for drivers door only, turn twice for all the doors.

Now, I can still use the keys in the door as usual, which work absolutely fine, and I can still unlock the drivers door (and deadlock or part-lock the whole car) with the keyfob remotes, but for some reason the fobs won't do the second Unlock any more.

I haven't got easy access to VAG-COM. There are no other electrical faults (believe me, I've tried all the car buttons in all combinations!).

Any suggestions? I could do without having to fork out another

There would be no need to disconnect the battery to do a cambelt.

Have you asked you dealer to have a look?

Cambelt wasn't done at a dealer; was done by these guys.

Pleasantly surprised to see, at the bottom of the work invoice, 'PS we can chip this from 150 to 200bhp if you wish'...:-) Regardless of why they needed to disconnect the battery, they obviously have, for reasons best known to themselves. I can't see how this would cause the problem I've got now, as the convenience unit is otherwise working fine- is this something that needs a trip to a local friendly VAG-COM?

(My local official dealers ripped me off, and then ripped me off again, for work on my previous Octys (this is number 3), so I tend to avoid them now with this one. )

Hope if they decided to take the engine out too they used new stretch bolts and didn't reuse the old ones. ;)
