Featured Replies

The top mount bearings should have been replaced with the springs.

They was mate apparently according to Qwick fit they may of been over tighten ? when the car first came back from garage when parking i could here a tiny clicking noise when turning lock to lock i just put it to being new and needed settling in. i haven't heard that noise since nor was it bad i properly wouldn't of even noticed it if i was listening for the slightest Noise. but after tracking and going back twice  the guy test drove it as i wasn't happy with how the car lurched to left when let go of wheel he came up with the idea that the  top mount being damaged or siezed. I  have read about this and it seems plauable so i guess a warranty issue ? or garage? cars covered 1.5k and works 7 week old come tomorrow. Just praying that getting hold of some apex springs 35 or 25mm and some new top mounts will fix the issue. rubbish to be having to pay for the same job twice however.

You can't overtighten the top bearings. They are just held in place with the spring force. The bearings are separate from the actual rubber top mounts. Personally I wouldn't trust anything Kwik Fit say, but that's just me.

In this pic are the top mounts and bearings at the bottom of pic...

I don't know mate. If you are fitting new springs and the top bearings are old they should always be replaced, otherwise it means taking everything apart again if they fail. It's just bad practice but doesn't surprise me from Kwik Fit. They should have advised you that you really should have the top bearings replaced for a proper job.

Are Kwik-Fit on the right idea?

By probability they must eventually get something right one day but not if it benefits the customers wallet they wont.

I am with TMB.

And in this instance they are talking out of their backsides not that I had to read what they said but I did check anyway.
