Featured Replies

any body had any dealings with the afore mentioned item i am looking at getting one and would like to know some peoples some opinions

damn submitted in the wrong forum

how can i move this

got one, had no issues and it works great. Went for this one as the chipset is better than the other tomtom models. Quite small too

i prefer the one because the others to be fair have such fat arses and the one is nice and slim may have to purchase one of these not that i get lost often but its always nice to have:D

I agree with all above - TT one is super fast and very practical as it easily hidden or carried...

For the new prices you cant go wrong.

If you look around you can find nearly new ones for ~140 quid.

Bargain!

I want to get one of these, but was wondering about the leads. I take it it plugs into the cigarette lighter, what other leads do you have? I have visions of a tangled mess

Also, is there a way to just mount them on the dash so you can take it out of the car leaving no trace of a cradle etc behind (as I know these have been stolen too)

I don't really want to be making any holes in my nice new dash :thumbdwn:

I use the cradle that came with it.

It looks like it will be pretty easy to wire it into the fuse box too as its in the side of the dash right below where i use mine.

Not sure if anyones tried it yet ?

Whatever you buy, get a Garmin sticky pad fro the dash, works really well and means the unit suctions to the dash not the window. Makes it easier to reach.

Oh and check in here for reviews. Personally, I'd go for the Garmin Nuvi 300 at the same sort of price (£10 more). It gets marginally better reviews, is slightly smaller and lighter and can play MP3s too. Has a nice reroute/diversion feature as well. Cheryl has the 350 (Europe wide mapping) and it is stunning. I'll get one soon too I love it that much!

The sticky pads look like a good idea

What's all this instead of sticking it to the window mallarky:confused:

Nearly all of them suction to the window.

Obscures vision

Is further away if you need to reach it

Leaves marks on the window

I have a tomtom300 and it just has the one lead which plugs from the tomtom to the cigarette lighter socket. No tangled mess! Also I 'work' the battery. I'll charge the tomtom during one journey, and the charge will usually last for another 5/6 journeys, so no nasty wires trailing up the dash.

I mount my tt300 in the center storage box on top of the dash with the pop up lid. A bit of velcro tape on the underside of the lid and on the back of the tomtom and it works a treat. Will see if I can get a photo to stick up on here. Then when you park up, take the tomtom out and shut the lid and hey presto! - no nasty bracketry to let anyone know you have a tomtom.

Just tried my TomTom Go (the original model) in the dashtop storage box and it fits a treat - picks up the GPS signal fine through the lid. I take it the velcro is just to stop it sliding about when cornering? If so, I might find an alternative such as a sponge rubber cradle, or simply a non-slip mat between the top of the TomTom and the lid.

Yes, velco just there to stop it sliding around. Originally, I did try it without and it was ok about 80% of the time - but yes, certainly could use antislip mat or something similar.

Here's the pic. And yes, you can still clearly see the screen even though it's at a slightly offfset angle from the drivers seat.

Looks great but I don't have that storage box

Has anyone who ownes the TT one actually used sticky pads for the dash? It's slimmer than the other models so does it actually stay in place? Looks like I am definetely getting one of these.

Ooooh yeah, what about the TT plus service? apparentely the 'one' is ready for it, can't remember if it means I can use my nokia hands free or not.

Pixi,

TT plus services are the downloads that you may purchase direct from tomtom

Examples of such downloads are: extra maps for travelling abroad, speed scam-era locations, amusing funny voices, points of interest, weather, etc

http://www.tomtom.com/plus/index.php?Language=1

But, unfortunatly no, the tt one doesn't support hands-free calling via bluetooth.

I think i'm going to take the plunge into buying a tt one tomorrow. I'm always getting lost when travelling outside of my usual routes and some weekends i'd quite like to get up early and just go somewhere but am put off by trying to find my way or constantly pulling over to read maps or my other speciality, driving 30 miles in the wrong direction. :o

Go for it mate...

I go to the same place of work each day and thought (the day after my TT one purchase) that it'd be a waste of money. Not in the slightest - it is used whenever travel to a new place or anywhere on a long journey 1. for 'company' (its smething else to play with) when on my own and 2. for speed cameras... As you can pick these up for around

Go for it mate...

Thanks for the info.

Are they easy to hardwire as i've got so many things dependant on my single cigarette lighter socket I think it's time to look into powering things directly.

I'm also thinking I dont want it mounted on the windscreen so may purchase a brodit mount for it from handnav.co.uk albiet at the usual brodit high price.
