Online update service unavailable?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've recently bought a Jan 2020 Karoq second hand and really enjoying it.

If I go in to the system information within the settings there is a button which says online update, but every time it immediately returns a service unavailable message almost like it's not even trying.

My car is connected to WiFi and I can see the car through the Skoda connect app so I'm not entirely sure what's going on?

Also, is this to update the maps only or the whole of the in car entertainment? I'm hoping for Android auto wireless!

Many thanks

Andy

You can still hoping

There's no Android Auto wireless for the Karoq

I can't believe it won't be updated to support it, it has all the necessary hardware

Do you have a MY21 or MY20 ?

It needs the MIB3 and if it's not factory activated, I guess it's like for Superb owners...

Silly question... but how do I know? It has the word Skoda on the back as opposed to the badge so I thought it was the newer model.

Would be annoying if they didn't add it.

Do you know what the "service unavailable" message relates to?

MY21 are car built after W30-2020.

It'll be MY20 then as it was built in Jan of 2020

Anyway... With regards to the original question, does anyone know why I'm getting a service unavailable message at all please?

You have to connect the car to a wan source first via your phone, and then you can update the maps etc. Then next time it fails again to set up the wan!!

To get Skoda connect to work reliably I bought a £10 sim card from 3 which gives 1gb for first month and then gives you 200mb free per month after that and set it set to mobile data only. This seems to work fine and 200mb should be all I ever need. You can use a sim card for phone as well and not have the car connect to your phone for that but it is expensive as you need to keep topping up the card. If you use it for calls the car will have its own phone number. When doing an online update remove this sim card and use your phone, or the house wifi if close enough otherwise it will more than use the data. A map update is multi gb of data and takes ages.

Just updated the maps in my 2020 MY Columbus. Despite several efforts with 3 SD cards it wouldn’t collect the data and update, so I used the ‘online’ method.

Took sometime before the online update service became available, but eventually the map download started. It took ages and I resorted in going for a drive whilst it completed. I was fearful it would fail and I’d have to go through the whole rigmarole again.

( Life’s too short for that!)

The update (0189) adds new mapping for ‘ England South’
