Buying a Superb 280

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Sorry, another one of those threads.

Coming from a MK2 vRS and have reserved a 2018 Mk3 Superb 280 DSG with less than 10k miles.

Just wanted to see if there was anything I should be looking for when we test drive? Any options you couldn't live without and anything I can bargain with them on. It seems a very fair price already but if you don't ask you don't get!

I am assuming it is on variable servicing and so should have had it's first service in March. I will probably switch to fixed. Low mileage was a concern, in my eyes being parked up is as bad as higher mileage but then I suppose few people will have been doing high mileage recently.

Any feedback would be great.

Nothing major to look out for apart from the usual checks for any second hand car.

I've got an MY19 2018 SEL Exec but mine is the 272. Mine is serviced annually as I do around 9-10k a year.

I added Canton to mine which is lovely (to my ears anyway) but it's not a deal breaker. The reverse camera is a nice addition if it's fitted. Most options are personal of course so it would be whatever ticks your boxes

Good luck with it all!

Added 'reverse'

Was that the 3.5k miles red sportline near Southampton for £23.3k by any chance?

that was the only other one on the Skoda system a few weeks back when I got mine but I couldn’t stretch the extra 3 and a half grand even though the mileage was tempting. Also didn’t have the rear wiper that mine has.

I don’t have the windscreen camera or canton but it does have front and rear parking sensors with camera and heated seats plus the sunroof which I didn’t want but is quite nice.

good luck knocking money off, I only got £150 off a £20k car.....

Not that one. This is a quartz grey one through Motorpoint. £20.5k and seems to be ok specced. Won't really know all until we view it as the description wasn't really very in depth. Have since found out though that it has been serviced twice at 4k and 8 k miles 😮

@Norco

What does the services mean has been done, 2 oil and filter changes and a pollen filter and look sees and a report.

Are there body inspections on the servicing details on the system for the sake of the Paint / Corrosion warrany?

What model is it? Spec varies massively with model and year. That said, even the 'lower' models have a lot of kit on them.

Things I like on mine are the reverse camera and heated windscreen, but neither are deal breakers.

Heated windscreen was the most important option for me - not standard!

Make sure you give it a test drive and try out as many buttons as possible. Check the service history too.

Yes I will be looking at the book to check the servicing is up to scratch. I believe it is 2 main dealer services so should include the inspections for the paint/corrosion warranty too.

It is n 18 plate Sportline 4x4 - I know it has parking sensors and electric (though maybe not heated) seats. Unsure on the rest as description not the best. Think it will be ready to view tomorrow so fingers crossed. Only spec I am really insistent on is the BT, Nav (this has Amundson), parking sensors and zenons. Everything else are just nice to haves.

Thanks

Actually I think it may also have heated front and rear. Annoyingly when I came off the phone from reserving it they had already taken the advert down so I couldn't screengrab it. Will be carefully checking everything, and service history. We also have the benefit of 5 months warranty and the extension for another 2 (but dont want to be making lots of trips to the dealership!).

I would of course like DCC too but coming from a vRS I suspect this will be a softer ride anyway!

@Norco

Main Dealer Servicing should include the Body Inspection as Skoda UK have that on all the Fixed Price Service & Maintenance websites.

Sadly Skoda UK are then very commonly saying 'Body Inspections' not recorded if anyone makes a Warranty Claim on Paint or Corrosion.

So best be sure it is on the System.

No Books to check unless an owner purchased one, so get a print out of the Servicing done. Part Numbers if there are any.

Recall Actions or Warranty Work info as well.

Haldex Service is due @ 3 years.   Even if low mileage.

If it's L&K it'll come with DCC as standard. I believe it's an option on the SportLine. Either way you can check in the driver modes settings.

Yes I believe if comfort option is present then DCC is there? Not a deal breaker but check then look disappointed and add it to the know down list. To be honest I don't really see much more coming off the price as it stands but always worth an ask.

I had no idea they had done away with the books! Out of interest would any garage be able to check for this? It is from Motorpoint so not sure if they will be able to to tell me or if its a call to Skoda instead?

Skoda Dealers can call it up, and Skoda UK CS's can tell you.

& Motorpoint should know what the Service Record is if advertising the car with the Service Record. Maybe they have Print Outs / Invoices.

If they have not the licensed equipment to check the VW / Skoda system this is an issue when they Service Cars which can not be put on the System.

Someone will be able here to tell you how the System can be checked online by owners.

Not entirely sure to be honest - check in individual settings and see if there is an option for suspension. From what I've heard the standard suspension is fine on the SportLine, even if not DCC.

The main thing is you've got the correct engine / powertrain
