Hello. 
I've just bought a mint 2008 Fabia Mk1 1.4 diesel estate and must fit a tow bar. 
However there are reversing sensors that work well.

I’ll take a chance and let the fitting shop go ahead and fit the bar but I’m expecting the beepers to be sounding.  
Anyone have experience of this?

How will I disable the parking sensor system if the beepers are sounding?

My Estate has a factory fitted tow bar and has reversing sensors, no problem.

Hi tortoro, yes but on your car I assume the factory electronics kill the parking sensors when reverse is engaged? Otherwise it would mean that the sensors detect the trailer and beep like mad. 
 

My question is does the presence of a permanent tow ball cause the sensors to sound on a car that has an aftermarket tow bar with fixed tow ball..  so what I fear is that when I engage reverse with no trailer on the beeps go mad.

The sensors won't see the towball, you're overthinking this dramatically, they will see the trailer or the plastic shed if that's what you'll be dragging though.

I'm guessing that the signal to the relay that there's a trailer on the back breaks the circuit to the sensors.

 

The sensors don't see the ball hitch.

 

Fixing the wiring should be a simple enough task , most aftermarket 'kits' would probably have an option.
