Rear Parking Sensors - Function is currently not available

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've owned a 2014 2.0 TSI VRS for three weeks now. I am generally happy with the car but on two drives, either in the wet or after it had been raining, when reversing i get no sensors and only the message "Function is currently not available" on the infotainment screen plus it starts off with a long beep then nothing. I have searched and found a few similar issues but generally those are the warning "park pilot not available" and none of the threads seem to reach a resolution. I still have about a weeks worth of warranty left from the dealer i purchased from but it is about an hours drive away. As it's an intermittent fault and I am not sure it will have left an error code I have the feeling I will drive there only for it to work fine and them say well there's no fault code... Has anyone else had a similar issue? Did they manage to get it resolved or do Skoda parking sensors just not work in rain or if it has been raining?

Thanks

Hi, did you ever get this issue resolved as I'm having the same issue?

I guess since it's been a year, either not fixed or got it fixed and didn't update the thread.

Rain or dirt on the sensors can of course affect the function, as can a faulty sensor/wiring loom issue.

You should try to get the car on a fault code reader, if you are in the UK, then we have a bigger selection of people with scan tools you can use to scan if you don't own any.

My own car has these stored

As you can see from this image, someone else had butchered the loom on the car, and no power was flowing to the 3x sensors on the right

Bottom line for you, is you are best to get a scan of the car to find out what fault codes exist

One easy way to begin to check the cabling is, each of the sensors have 3 wires going to them,  +12V power, a 0V earth return and an output, so you should find that there are 2 pins in each plug that go to the same 2 pins on the other plugs - but not to each other and only the output pins are completely separate from all the other pins.

Edit:- but as has been said already, when you get a couple, three or all four sensors claiming to be faulty, then it is usually a wiring issue. The way that VW Group's supplier has made up these cable forms, there will be joins as the common +12V DC and 0V return lines are daisy chained along the bumper.

Are there any members in South London near Mitcham that have a scanner that could check codes for me?

Take a look at this thread, there is a map you can view of people or a list.

Then check their profile to see when last online, then reach out via PM if nobody replies here directly.

Just a thought, but did your car have a factory fit tow hook, or has someone tried to fit an after market one?  I have a factory fit tow hook and I get the same message if the car detects that something is attached to the rear wiring loom.  I don't actually tow anything, but I do have a 4-bike carrier, so obviously connect that up for all my rear lights when we take the bikes out.

Possibly there's something shorting out the connections (you say it happens in the wet), which is making the car think something is attached.  I have a black plastic cover which pushes up into the hole where the tow hook and wiring connection would otherwise be, when not in use.  Keeps the dirt and water out.

Found out the parking sensors weren't working due to the small speaker hidden in the heading that activates with the system was faulty, replaced and system working again.
