Citigo 6-speed Up gearbox swap?

Featured Replies

I have for a while felt that my Citigo needed a 6th gear for highway speeds - (110-130kph in Denmark).

So I wondered if the Up had a 6-speed option?

And it did!

How extensive would such a swap be? I mean if all the mechanical parts where there, it would be "plug and play"?

Anyone with experience in doing such a swap?

I would assume finding a gearbox from an Up GTI would be nigh on impossible being as the cars are fairly rare anyway.

A Citigo has 95Nm @3000rpm, but Up! GTI has 200Nm @2000rpm

If it were possible to fit the 6-speed box, the gearing would likely be wrong - the GTi box will be geared to suit the extra torque on that car. You may need to change the diff for something too and even then the 'distance' between each gear may well be unacceptable.  Not to mention the linkages....

'Simply Clever' would be to sell the Citigo and buy an Up! GTI.

Ah, so the gearbox was only available for a special Up?

No 6-speed for a 60hp version?

GTI only.
