@pope

Welcome to the forum.

You were driving a Skoda not a VW so no idea why VW should warn anyone.

Skoda should have a big warning sticker on the car so drivers are made aware.

You can disable front assistant if it doesn’t give you much confidence (personally I never had it on previous cars and managed fine so don’t really care for it)

there’s a button on the steering wheel which has this symbol

I have a 2015 Fabia which has radar built into the front bumper. The brakes have come on twice once for no apparent reason the second time going down a switchback hill I think it may have picked up a reflection from the road at the bottom of the dip. The maxidot shows a car and the alarm sounded, on mine the radar can be switched off. Joe

I would feed that back to Customer Services to be honest. You may even get a survey to fill out after your dealer visit so mention it then too. Just take the caps lock off when you do, it's always best to remain calm when logging a complaint.

BRAINS THE NEW VW GOLF IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM

@pope

Many modern VW Group models are doing the same actually, but do you want Audi & SEAT to also tell you to take care and beware.

I am surprised someone as astute as you with a history of Skoda ownership has never heard of the issue, but then maybe you do not use forums very often.

You will be able to bring it to the Management Board of VW Group and the DVLA & DfT in the UK.

Do it in LARGE PRINT maybe they are poor of sight, & also hearing.

ABOUT TIME THEY DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT

@pope

You can start things off.

  There is a form online that you can use to contact the DVLA, then you could contact your MP to get onto the Transport Minister.

@pope Please refrain from continually using capital letters as it doesn’t make for an easy read. :thumbup:

I was coming out of a supermarket car park and pulled out safely when the brakes hammered on,

the only thing that could have caused it was a car that pulled up to the post box opposite as I pulled out.

I was lucky, I did not collect another vehicle up my boot lid Try explaining that to an insurance company.

People must be telling insurers if that is happening and if there is an incident / accident and claims being made.

Surely the Insurance Industry in the UK knows how many claims are coming because of these Safety Devices fitted to passenger cars and if the accidents are a concern that should have the insurance group raised, or if they are saving more accidents than they cause.

The UK is not the only place that cars have had these Auto braking systems used in so you would expect more from the USA and countries where there is a reason to blame there can be a claim.

Watched a guy trying to park a VW in a bay where there were two tiny wild shrubs growing at the edge of the kerb. Every time he went to move forward, the shrubs triggered all his emergency shutdowns. Took him almost 15 minutes to edge 2' forward, ha ha!!!!!

This is why you don't let computers drive your car for you.

SO's Clubman has fron radar and about 3 times it has wailed red with a false positive reading of a car in front.

Scared the crap out of me.

I think it did bang the brakes on once, but that might have been me pooing my pants.

op - the  comments such as "stuck caps lock" could be diplomatically put as Forum etiquette. Basically it's not the done thing to make a post in capitals ,as others might think you are shouting.

I've made an attempt to clarify your post and edit for typos etc to make it easier to read.

"I am using a brand new Fabia which the brakes locked up on me without any proper warning .Luckily  I was only doing 30 mph and  no cars were behind me . Also there were no vehicles at all round me . I put hazards on go out of car to look under the car to see if i had run over something or  gear box had locked up, I  could find no reason for this to happen, so went to Skoda main dealer . They said it must have been a leave blown on the sensor  but there were no leaves what so ever and no wind the roads were wet that is all, then i looked to see if i could find a reason  if i was doing about 60 on a motor way it could have been a danger, then  I found comments on this sight the only thing on the road were camera white lines . Why have VW not let people know about it, it made me scared to drive any faster than 30 anywhere. "

Diplomatically yours.

Fortunately after many years of driving I have experienced MK1 eyeballs which spot hazards a long way ahead of what DVLA considers a hazard distance .
